    SAPTARI: One more child lost his life to mastery disease in Saptari.

    The deceased has been identified as Paras Kumar Mandal of Mahadewa VDC-2.

    With this addition, the death toll caused by mystery disease rose to four in Saptari.

    Mandal, who was suffering from high fever, stomach ache and got unconscious in the beginning, was admitted to Sagarmatha zonal hospital in Rajbiraj.

    He was taken to to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan for further treatment when it was impossible in zonal hospital. Mandal died on the way to BPKIHS.




    Kala-azar is active in the region as in this report from 2007 indicating 5 deaths in children. http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17443

    Three die of mysterious disease in Saptari
    Three persons have died and over two dozen taken ill due to a mysterious disease, undiagnosed so far, in Saptari over the past few days.

    Public Health Officer of Saptari Chandra Dev Mahato said, Ramnarayan Mandal, Dibesh Kumar Yadav and Rujal Mukhiya of Jagatpur VDC in the district have died of the disease.

    Mahato said, the patients showed common symptoms like fever, stomach ache, dizziness and vomiting. nepalnews.com

      Saptari, Nepal: Six die of unidentified disease





      One more person has died in Saptari district due to an unidentified disease on Wednesday, death toll reaching to six in total. Budhani Devi Yadav (45) of Pakari VDC-9 in the district died due to the unidentified disease, today. She was ill for the past two days and doctors who were involved in her treatment said she died after the disease was not identified, according to Binod Kumar Yadav, son of the deceased. Earlier on Monday, Bishwojit Adhikari, 10th grader at Motherland English Boarding School, Kanchanpur, lost his life due to the disease. Similarly, two persons of Jagatpur VDC, one of Piprapurba VDC and one of Mahadeba VDC had also lost their lives due to the unidentified disease.

        Here is a brief symptomatic description. Might be indicative of either hemorrhagic dengue or leptospirosis, but symptomatic reports in this area have been notoriously inaccurate.



        05 people died of unknown disease
        Saptari, Oct 17: A total of 5 people died in Saptari from unknown disease. Monday a child die here and the death reached to five. Uday Adhikari, 16 of Kanchanpur VDC died Monday. He had the symptoms of high fever and vomiting blood. He died before diagnosis. He was studying at grade 10 of Motherland English School of Kanchanpur.

        According to the family his treatment couldn’t happened in the local health post and he died on the way to BP koirala Health and Science Academy, Dharan.

        A team to find the disease is not being able to find out the disease. 2 people died in Jagatpur VDC, 1 in Piprapurba

          We have a report from July of 4 undiagnosed fatalities in the same district, with little symptomatic description:



          It is unclear whether these cases are included in the current count, or whether the outbreaks are even related.

            I just found this article from August, indicating 7 deaths by August 26, so the current outbreak is not related to the one from July. There appear to be at least two, and possibly three outbreaks in this thread so far. This one also adds a possibly unrelated animal outbreak.

            I am now merging the two threads as this appears to be an ongoing situation.

            As many as 7 people died of an unknown disease in Kaibalas VDC-4 of Saptari district in the last two weeks.
            According to a local resident, people who died suffered from high-fever, vomiting and shivering of body. The disease is still under investigation and researchers are on their way for breakthrough.
            Similarly, during the second week of this month 114 cattle including 11 buffaloes, 22 cows and oxen, 52 pigs and 29 goats died of an unknown disease in the Kankada, a remote VDC of Makawanpur district within a week.
