    Week 19 (May 6? May 12, 2012)
    Influenza activity in Taiwan peaked at week 2. Seasonal influenza virus type AH3 is predominant in the community.

    Of the 178 specimens tested during week 17, 2012, 32 (18%) were positive for influenza viruses, 27 (15%) were positive for influenza AH3 virus, 4 (2%) were positive for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus, 1 (1%) was positive for influenza B virus.

    There were 15 new complicated influenza infections and 1 report of death from complicated influenza infection during week 19. Since July 1, 2011, 1459 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1029 cases from influenza B virus infection, 331 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 76 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 23 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 489 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 132 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 101 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 23 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

    The number of deaths related to pneumonia and influenza during week 18 was 247, which was below the number of the previous week (283 deaths).

    The rate of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness is 1.1%, which was comparable with the rate of previous week (1.1%).

    The rate of emergency room visits for ILI is 10.69%, a 4.2% increase compared with the rate of previous week (10.26%).

      Of the 150 specimens tested during week 18, 2012, 27 (18%) were positive for influenza viruses, 20 (13%) were positive for influenza AH3 virus, 6 (4%) were positive for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus, 1 (1%) was positive for influenza B virus.

      There were 23 new complicated influenza infections and 1 report of death from complicated influenza infection during week 20. Since July 1, 2011, 1482 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1030 cases from influenza B virus infection, 351 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 78 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 23 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 496 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011,
      there have been 133 reports of death from complicated influenza infection
      ; 101 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 24 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

      The number of deaths related to pneumonia and influenza during week 19 was 253, which was comparable with the number of the previous week (252 deaths).

      The rate of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness is 1.13%, a 1.8% increase compared with the rate of previous week (1.11%).

      The rate of emergency room visits for ILI is 10.36%, a 3.1% decrease compared with the rate of previous week (10.69%).

        Influenza activity in Taiwan peaked at week 2. Seasonal influenza virus type AH3 is predominant in the community.

        Of the 201 specimens tested during week 19, 2012, 45 (22&#37 were positive for influenza viruses, 39 (19%) were positive for influenza AH3 virus, 5 (3%) were positive for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus, 1 (<1%) was positive for influenza B virus.

        There were 31 new complicated influenza infections during week 21. Since July 1, 2011, 1513 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1032 cases from influenza B virus infection, 378 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 79 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 24 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 508 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 133 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 101 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 24 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

        The number of deaths related to pneumonia and influenza during week 20 was 232, which was below the number of the previous week (257 deaths).

        The rate of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness is 1.16%, a 3.6% increase compared with the rate of previous week (1.12%).

        The rate of emergency room visits for ILI is 10.71%, a 3.4% increase compared with the rate of previous week (10.36%).

            There were 18 new complicated influenza infections during week 23. Since July 1, 2011, 1550 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1033 cases from influenza B virus infection, 410 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 79 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 28 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 521 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 136 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 102 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 26 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.

              Of the 187 specimens tested during week 22, 2012, 25 (13%) were positive for influenza viruses, 25 (13%) were positive for influenza AH3 virus.

              There were 38 new complicated influenza infections during week 24. Since July 1, 2011, 1588 complicated influenza infections have been confirmed, including 1033 cases from influenza B virus infection, 443 cases from influenza AH3 (H3N2) virus infection, 80 cases from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 32 cases due to un-typed influenza A virus infection. 533 cases of complicated influenza infections received the intensive care. Since July 1, 2011, there have been 136 reports of death from complicated influenza infection; 102 from the seasonal influenza B strain, 26 from the seasonal H3N2 strain, 6 from pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection and 2 from the un-typed influenza A virus, respectively.
