Residents protest death of boy due to mysterious fever

COIMBATORE: The death of an 18-year-old boy on Thursday due to a mysterious fever caused panic among residents of Ambarampalayam, near Pollachi, who staged a road block demanding that authorities look into the victim's death.

There were two other similar deaths recently that involved 20-year-old auto driver Arun and 4-year-old Madan. Residents believe that their deaths were caused by contaminated drinking water supplied under the Aliyar water scheme. Residents say that water is being supplied without it being properly treated and they want authorities to look into the matter.

When contacted, P Sivaprakasam, Resident Medical Officer, CMCH, said that the boy was brought to the hospital in a very serious condition. He had high fever and severe respiratory problems. As his health became worse, he was put on a ventilator but he did not survive. Doctors were unable to diagnose his ailment in the short time he was at the hospital.
