WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. ? A rare strain of hand, foot, and mouth disease has made its way to the Truckee Meadows, the Washoe County health department announced this week.

According to local public health officials, 30 cases of HFMD, identified as Coxsackievirus A6, have been identified; cases have appeared in only three other places in the United States ? Alabama (38), California (seven) and Connecticut (one)...

More foot and mouth cases reported at Reno elementary school

Since last week, six students at Anderson Elementary School in Reno have been infected with a new foot and mouth virus, Washoe County School District officials said they have learned.

Formally called Coxsackie A6, the virus is passed easily between children and adults and has been a community health issue since last spring...

A total of 70 cases of hand, food and mouth disease were reported at Silver Springs Elementary School in September; however, Lyon County School District chief school nurse Adrina Cohen said recently it?s been three weeks since she?s heard about the illness and feels the virus has run its course.
