SITUATION UPDATE
31/10/2012 As of 31 October 2012, 235 human cases of West Nile fever have been reported in the EU/EEA and 575 cases in neighbouring countries.
Since the last update, Hungary has detected two new cases from newly affected counties: a confirmed case from Békés and a probable case from Nógrád.
In Italy, five new cases of West Nile neuro-invasive disease have been reported: two from newly affected provinces (Matera and Udine) and three from provinces with previous case reports (Pordenone, Treviso and Venezia). Additional information on West Nile fever in Italy is available from Epicentro.
In neighbouring countries, Israel has reported 13 new cases from districts with previous case reports (Central 2, Haifa 2, Northern 5, Southern 1, Tel Aviv 3). Additional information on West Nile fever is available from the Ministry of Health.
The Russian Federation has reported two additional cases of West Nile fever in Astrakhanskaya oblast.
Serbia has reported three new cases of West Nile fever (one confirmed and two probable) from Grad Beograd, an area with previous case reports.
Tunisia has reported, through EpiSouth, 10 new cases: three from the newly affected governorates of Bizerte (Bizerte and Menzel Bourguiba) and Sousse (Sousse), six from governorates with previous case reports (Jendouba 1, Kebili 1 and Mahdia 4) and one whose location is not available yet.
