Ratusan ribu unggas itik di sejumlah daerah mati akibat jenis virus flu burung yang baru ditemukan di Indonesia.
Direktur Kesehatan Hewan, Kementerian Pertanian, Pujiatmoko kepada Radio Australia menjelaskan Kementerian sudah mendeteksi keberadaan jenis baru turunan dari flu burung sejak September lalu.
Kepastian jenis baru virus flu burung yang di dunia dikenal sebagai Avian Influenza tersebut setelah melalui serangkaian test di laboratorium yang melibatkan para peneliti.
Kementerian Pertanian menyebutkan virus flu burung yang baru ditemukan itu varian dari jenis H5N1.
“Sub tipe nya 2.3.2 yang ini merupakan temuan baru di Indonesia yang berbeda dari virus AI yang selama ini ada yaitu 2.1,” kata Pujiatmoko.
Dia melanjutkan temuan jenis baru flu burung di Indonesia diperkirakan karena mutasi gen virus flu burung yang masih dilakukan penelitian detil.
Kemungkinan lain yakni akibat introduksi virus flu burung dari luar seperti dari migrasi burung liar dan impor unggas itik dari luar negeri.
Untuk pencegahan penyebaran, Kementerian telah menginstruksikan agar dilakukan persiapaan pemusnahan massal kepada Pemerintah Daerah dan menyarankan agar tidak menyatukan memelihara itik dengan unggas jenis lain kepada para peternak.
“Kami juga akan berkoordinasi dengan Kementerian Kesehatan soal temuan jenis baru AI kalau ada temuan pada manusia,” jelas Pujiatmoko.
Sejauh ini belum ada laporan jenis baru turunan virus flu burung di Indonesia pada manusia.
Jenis virus flu burung tersebut sebelumnya telah ditemukan di India, Vietnam dan Cina.
Sementara itu, Himpunan Pengusaha Unggas Lokal Indonesia melaporkan sudah lebih dari 300 ribu itik mati seminggu terakhir.
Kematian itik ditemukan baru di empat propinsi di pulau Jawa yakni, Jawa Barat, Jawa Tengah, Jawa Timur dan Yogjakarta.
“Kami meminta agar Pemerintah menghentikan import itik dan melarang pembiakan percampuran bibit itik luar ngeri dengn lokal,” kata Ade Zulkarnaen, Ketua Himpunan Pengusaha Unggas Lokal Indonesia.
Peneliti Avian Influenza dari Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, CA. Nidom menyatakan Pemerintah perlu melakukan penelitian menyeluruh terkait temuan baru ini, terutama terkait soal kematian itik yang biasanya bertahan dan Cuma bersifat sebagai pembawa virus saja.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Pimpinan tim dokter penanganan virus flu burung dari Rumah Sakit (RS) Dr Soetomo Surabaya menghimbau warga di wilayah Jawa Timur (Jatim) untuk mewaspadai virus mutasi flu burung yang terbaru.
Wakil Ketua tim dokter penanganan flu burung RS Dr. Soetomo Surabaya, dr Laksmi Wulandari mengatakan, mutasi virus flu burung terbaru itu dimungkinkan terjadi. Hal itu, jelas dia, karena kekhasan virus flu burung ketimbang flu-flu lainnya.
"Virus ini mampu bertahan di kotoran unggas hingga 35 hari, di suhu air 0 hingga 30 derajat dan sifat virus pun RNA di mana memang mudah bermutasi," ungkapnya, Selasa (11/12). Sehingga, menurut dia, wajar apabila virus flu burung ini sempat hilang dan kemudian muncul kembali dengan mutasi yang baru.
Bahkan, pada 2011, seorang peneliti flu burung di wilayah Sidoarjo, dr Joko, sempat menemukan beberapa burung gereja tertular flu burung dari kotoran yang diteliti. Ini berarti modus penularan virus yang bermutasi ini memang masih terus terjadi.
Dengan adanya temuan kematian ratusan itik di Jawa Tengah dan Jawa Timur kemarin, memang merupakan siklus alamiah dari virus flu burung tersebut. Temuan adanya burung gereja yang sempat tertular itu menunjukkan bahwa dinamisnya mutasi virus ini.
Tapi untungnya, temuan penularan virus mutasi ini masih antarunggas. "Harapannya temuan yang itik itu juga masih penularan antar unggas," terang Peneliti Penyakit Tropis Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Airlangga ini. Namun demikian, ia juga tidak menampik apabila mutasi virus ini terus terjadi maka tidak menutup kemungkinan terjadi penularan dari unggas ke manusia.
Untuk itu, ia mengimbau kepada warga agar tetap melakukan petunjuk keamanan bila ditemukan unggas yang mati mendadak, terlebih dalam jumlah yang banyak. Diantaranya dengan membakar bangkai unggas tersebut dan memeriksa unggas yang lain, bila terjangkiti segera dimusnahkan dengan cara dibakar.
RS Dr Soetomo Surabaya terakhir merawat pasien suspek flu burung pada 2010 lalu. Namun sejak kemunculan pasien flu burung pada 2006, setidaknya sudah lima pasien yang terindikasi positif terjangkit flu burung. Dari lima pasien tersebut, tiga diantaranya meninggal dunia dan dua di antaranya berhasil disembuhkan.
