Diese sogenannte syndromische Surveillance wurde etabliert, um verlässliche Daten zum Verlauf von Atemwegs*erkrankungen in der Bevölkerung zu erhalten. Kinder der Alterstufe 2-6 Jahre erkranken häufiger und früher als die ältere Allgemeinbevölkerung. Somit lassen sich zu einem früheren Zeitpunkt bereits Abschätzungen zum Verlauf und Ausmaß einer Atemwegs-Erkrankungswelle in der Bevölkerung treffen. Mit dem KARE-Verfahren lässt sich insbesondere der Verlauf der saisonalen Influenzawelle verlässlicher beurteilen, da durch die gegenwärtigen Meldeverfahren die Influenza-Erkrankungen deutlich unterregistriert werden.

but so far (week 5) still lower than the peak in 2008/9

just cut the lower part of the ARI-chart ;--)
there should be better methods, but you'd need the
data in computer-readable form, also RSV,isolates data.
In theory it's the "task" of the RKI to provide this, that's what they
are being paid for. It should be very easy to do so, as compared
with all the other collections,comments,analysises in the reports !
So, why don't they ? Must be "political" reasons. Maybe they want
to spread the message this way, that flu contributes only a
small part of respiratory diseases (in Germany)
But the world is international and we want to compare the
data with other countries. Figuring out how flu spreads,
what makes the seasons bad, how the different viruses interact...
Maybe some day someone will manually type in the data
or automatically detect the pixels in the charts
