    Case Background:
    BIRD FLU CASE REPORT IN BALI

    Ministry of Health, "the Directorate General of Disease Control and Environmental Health" announced two new cases of H5N1 have been confirmed by the Center for Biomedical and Health Basic technology, Balitbangkes.
    The first case on behalf of the NRA initials (P, 5 years), a resident of the District. Bangli, Bali. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose began on September 27, 2011 and has been treated but no change. On October 5, 2011 went to local hospitals and treated, because of increasing shortness then on October 7, 2011 the case was referred to the AI referral hospital (Sanglah) and on October 9, 2011 cases died.

    The second case on behalf of IWA initials (L, 10 years 5 months) brother of the NRA (case 1) citizens of the District. Bangli, Bali. Fever began on September 30, 2011 and has been treated but no change. On 5 October 2011 along with his sister (case 1) went to the local hospital and treated, because of increasing shortness then on October 7, 2011 the case was referred to the AI referral hospital (Sanglah) and on October 10, 2011 kasusu died.
    Epidemiological research has been done to the patients home and neighborhood by Tim Kemenkes and Integrated Provincial Health Office and local District, recovered a number of other risk factors between cases have live birds dilingkungan where there are many people who keep poultry. In addition a number of deaths of poultry and its neighbors in the number of cases before the case is pretty much pain.
    With the increase in two cases, the cumulative number of bird flu in Indonesia since 2005 up to the publication of this news is 181 cases with 149 deaths.
    Director General of Disease control and Environmental Health, Prof.. dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama as the focal point as the IHR (International Health Regulations) had been informed about the case to the WHO.

    WHO Avian influenza ? situation in Indonesia - update 7
    26 October 2011 - The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has announced two new confirmed cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus.

    The first case is a 5-year old female from Bangli district, Bali Province. She developed symptoms on 27 September, and was first admitted to a local general hospital on 5 October. She died on 9 October.

    The second case is a 10-year old male, the brother of the first case. He developed symptoms on 30 September, and was first admitted to the hospital on the same day as his sister. He died on 10 October.

    An epidemiological investigation conducted by the Ministry of Health and local health officers indicated that the children lived in an area with poultry, and household and neighborhood poultry had died prior to the children?s illnesses.

    Laboratory tests have confirmed infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus.

    Of the 181 cases confirmed to date in Indonesia, 149 have been fatal.
