    ...the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygeine issued an alert a few weeks ago notifying residents that:

    they had identified five cases of measles in Borough Park, Brooklyn in the past month
    there were a large number of exposures in the community and that additional cases were expected to be identified
    all of the confirmed cases, who ranged in age from 10 months to 23 years, were unvaccinated
    the initial case was from London, where a very large epidemic of measles is underway and measles cases are at an 18 year high...

    BROOKLYN ? A measles outbreak has hit Borough Park and spread to Williamsburg, health officials said.

    There have been 21 reported measles cases in Borough Park and one case in Williamsburg so far this year, affecting residents in those areas' ultra-orthodox Jewish communities, according to the city's Department of Health. Those who were infected, ranging in age from 10 months to 32 years old, have all recovered, officials said...

        The measles outbreak in Borough Park is getting worse. Last week we reported that the outbreak has already infected 21 people in Borough Park this year and one in Williamsburg. Now Failed Messiah is reporting on a recent Department of Health alert that says that 34 cases have now been reported as more children and adults have been exposed to people who are infected...

          The Rockland County Department of Health has identified a case of measles in Rockland County. During the Health Department?s investigation, it was discovered that the individual with measles was at the Hatzlacha Grocery Store, located at 126 Maple Avenue in Spring Valley, on Wednesday, May 22nd. Individuals who may have been at this location between 1:30-4:30PM and part of the high - risk group below may have been potentially exposed to measles.

          If you were present in the store at that time and are in any of the following high - risk groups, contact your doctor by phone right away: ?pregnant ?a child under 6 months of age ?immunocompromised or immunosuppressed ( when your body can?t fight disease) ?Or if you have not been vaccinated against the measles. In the interest of preventing the spread of this highly communicable disease, the Rockland County Department of Health also asks individuals who may have been exposed and who have symptoms consistent with measles (fever & rash) to call their physician, health care provider or emergency room before going for care so that others are not exposed in a waiting room...

            The family of a child who contracted measles has alerted health officials that the youngster was at two additional Monsey stores last week.

            The Rockland County Department of Health is warning shoppers who were at Toys 4 U and Supreme Health Food Center, both at 27 Orchard St., shortly after 6 p.m. May 20 that they might have come in contact with the child.

            The youngster was also at the Hatzlacha grocery store at 80 West St. between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.


            As a result, health officials are extending the date when anyone who contracted the disease from the child might show symptoms to June 12, Kathleen Henry, Rockland?s acting health commissioner, said Tuesday...

              Brooklyn – Councilman Lander Warns: Don’t Delay Your Measles Vaccination

              A number of children in the Boro Park community have recently contracted measles, a virus that causes fever, runny nose, cough and a rash all over the body. There have been 28 cases of measles identified in Boro Park, and 20 more cases in Williamsburg, according to the City of New York.

              Council Member Brad Lander urged community members to take action to protect their families. “It appears that the first case came from London — but as it has spread,” said Lander. “Most of those who have gotten measles were not vaccinated...”

                Ulster County health boss: Be on lookout for measles in kids

                  The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has issued an update on the measles outbreak in New York City.

                  Unlike many other measles outbreaks in the United States, this one comes with new vaccine recommendations:

                  "To interrupt the spread of measles in this community, the Health Department recommends that the first dose of measles- mumps-rubella-vaccine (MMR) now be given at 6 months of age to all Orthodox Jewish children living in Borough Park, Williamsburg, and Crown Heights...

                  Further, non-Orthodox children receiving medical care in practices that serve predominantly Orthodox Jewish patients, should also receive MMR vaccine beginning at 6 months of age because of the increased risk of exposure...
