                    Also from the above presentation...

The next slide (#8) is titled:

24 YRS OLD MALE, IDU, UNCLE OF CONFIRMED CASE, CONTACT WITH CONFIRMED CASE

It's not clear to me who this is -- or if we know about him. Does "IDU" ring a bell with anybody?

The slide gives some medical stats for the patient from one day to the next (April 22, 2006 & April 23, 2006) which show how quickly the patient declined.

                      Just a guess...

This case of an HIV-infected person poss also being infected with H5N1 is described as a 24 year-old male, the uncle of a confirmed case who had contact with that confirmed case.

Just a guess -- going through the WHO's list of confirmed cases from April -- there was the case of "a 20-month-old girl who resided in Kapuk, West Jakarta" who, sadly, died on March 23, 2006.

One of the six WHO Regions, WHO South-East Asia is home to a quarter of the world’s population. Committed to building a better, healthier future for the nearly two billion people in the Region, WHO is working with the 10 Member States to address persisting and emerging epidemiological and demographic challenges. World Health Organization South-East Asia is working with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste.

She doesn't have to have been the HIV patient's niece, but the ages would fit (for an uncle and a niece, I mean).

Good catch, Theresa42. This appears to be a previously unreported case.
Slide #3 points to Tangerang. The presenter may have verbally identified the discussed cases from these areas. Below are two WHO confirmed cases from April 2006 both from Jakarta and both died. It is not clear how IDU could be an uncle to either one of these individuals, but I am not familiar with the kinship terminology in Indonesia. IDU could be an "uncle" to one of these cases. In slide #7, it notes that all three HIV(+) patients suspected with AI died. IDU presumably is one of those individuals.

Here is the listing for two WHO confirmed cases in Indonesia in April.

Thanks, Al! Knew you'd have the patient info at hand.

At this point it's obviously not clear who was the nephew/niece of 'IDU' -- but at least we're now aware of another possible family cluster.

Well, you never know -- the ages are pretty close and even though these two individuals are older than IDU, he still could have been an uncle to either of them. I have an example from my very own family where one of my great-aunts is only one year older than one of my uncles (i.e. her nephew) -- the blending of generations is one by-product of large families!
