That would be consistent, but do you have an article or link confirming it? You are in Turkey, so you obviously might have better information than I do here.

And do you have some insight into the translations? As to what exactly was burned in "lament" - their home? the grave? the mother?

I also think a ProMed post is coming - even if this is a pesticide poisoning, it is still ProMed worthy.

Apparently there is now suspicion of an intentional poisoning, as it appears the parents have been called in for questioning. At least the mother is healthy enough to call in for questioning, as she was quite ill earlier.

With enough speculative etiologies mentioned in this thread already, I hate to add one more, but there is one that fits all the facts and has not yet been mentioned. Cough as a symptom is unusual for an ingested poison, such as a pesticide, but would make sense for an inhaled one. The articles above mention that the family is very poor. I wonder if carbon monoxide poisoning has been investigated. That would explain all the symptoms (flu-like + vomitting), the delayed onsets in the youngest child and mother (repreated exposure), and the mother's rapid recovery in the ICU. It would also explain the anomalies that a repeated food poisoning would present (why didn't they throw out the food, etc.).

Perhaps the family's heating (or cooking) system is at the root of this outbreak. They might be burning fuel indoors, or simply have an old and leaky heater (or stove).
