Missouri 2010-2011 Season: Weeks 40-20 (Season Ends 1,003 P&I Deaths Over Last Season )
P&I deaths continue to be elevated in comparison to last year and the 5-year weekly median. Total deaths this season: 1,395; total last year this time: 1,118
The number of reported influenza cases for week 4 of the 2010-2011 season is slightly above the last five seasons.
Week 4: Regional
ILI: 4.22% (baseline 2.47%) - majority ages 0-24
Majority of hospitalizations for ages 5-14 (7.02%)
90% positive specimens (majority B)
P&I deaths for week (114) continue to be elevated in comparison to last year and the 5-year weekly median. Total deaths this season: 1,509; total last year this time: 1,189
The number of reported influenza cases for week 5 is at historical limits with the last five seasons, even though they were down from last week.
91% positive specimens (90% A/2009 H1N1; 10% B)
ILI: 4.97% (baseline 2.47%); mostly ages 0-49
Increase in hospitalizations ages 0-4; decrease in all other age-groups
Week 7: Widespread
ILI: 5.97%
92% positive for influenza (majority A/H3)
Age-group 5-14 is highest age-group to be hospitalized with influenza or pneumonia syndrome (6.4%)
Week 8: Widespread
83% positive for influenza: majority B
ILI: 6.41
Increased hospitalizations for 65 and older age group (6.21%) in Week 8.
There have been 3 outbreaks during current flu season.
100% positive for influenza (A total of seven specimens were received by the State Public Health Laboratory for viral testing during week 10. Two were positive for 2009 Influenza A (H1N1), two were positive for Influenza A (H3), and three were positive for Influenza B.)
ILI: 4.79% (I'm in Jackson County where ILI is 11.91%. It's no wonder why I'm hearing a lot of coughing in stores!)
There must be a lot of pH1N1 in Missouri with all the P&I deaths and with the much higher than average cases in the 15-24 and 24-49 age groups. I wish they would publish isolates data.

Week 11: Regional
ILI: 2.81
Increase in hospitalizations for the 5-24 year old age group (8.88%. All other age groups have decreased in Week 11.
80% positive for influenza (One was positive for 2009 Influenza A (H1N1), eight were positive for Influenza A (H3), three were positive for Influenza B, and three were negative.)
Week 12: Regional NO SPECIMENS SUBMITTED FOR VIRAL TESTING (467 rapid tests positive for majority B)
ILI: 2.94% (Iron County had 17.5%)
P&I still showing increase over last season.
Hospitalizations for the 65+ year old age group has increased to 6.48% in Week 12. All other age groups have decreased in Week 12.

Hospitalizations (for ILI or pneumonia): The 0-4 age group has increased to 2.51% in Week 15. The 15-64 age group has also increased to 2.00% in Week 15. All other age groups have decreased in Week 15.
