The latest surveillance data showed that the overall influenza activity is increasing. Hong Kong has entered the winter influenza season.

The Centre for Health Protection has collaborated with the Hospital Authority and private hospitals to monitor influenza associated intensive care unit (ICU) admission and deaths (aged 18 years or above) since Jan 13, 2012. So far, there were two severe cases newly admitted to ICU and one death was reported (as of January 18).
自 1 月 13 日起，衞生防護中心聯同醫院管理局及私家醫院監察入住深切治療部的流感個案與流感相關之死亡個案(年齡為十 八歲或以上)的統計數字。截至1月18 日，本中心目前共錄得2宗需入住深切治療部及1 宗死亡個案。

In week 3, one case of severe paediatric influenza-associated complication involving a 13-year-old boy wasreported. He had developed meningitis. He had been discharged. In the first 5 days of week 4 (Jan 22 to 26, 2012),one case of severe paediatric influenza-associated complication involving a 9-year-old boy was reported. He had developed myocarditis. He is now in stable condition. Both cases had their nasopharyngeal aspirate specimen tested positive for influenza B.

In week 7, four cases of severe paediatric influenza-associated complication involving two boys and two girls were reported. Their ages ranged from 8 months to 14 years old. They had developed encephalitis or severe pneumonia. One of them had discharged while the others are in stable condition. Their nasopharyngeal aspirate specimens tested positive for influenza B. In the first 4 days of week 8 (Feb 19 to 22, 2012), there were no new reports of severe paediatric influenza-associated complication/death.

In week 8, one case of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection involving a 6-month-old boy was reported. He is now in severe condition. The virus strain detected was sensitive to zanamivir (Relenza). In first 4 days of week 9 (Feb 26 to 29, 2012), there were no new reports of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection. There are totally 17 reports of resistance to Tamiflu in strains of influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus detected in Hong Kong since 2009.

In week 10, there were no new reports of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection. In the first 4 days of week 11 (Mar 11 to 14, 2012), one case of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection involving a 61-year-old man who had developed severe pneumonia was reported. He had been discharged. The virus strain detected was sensitive to zanamivir (Relenza). There are totally 18 reports of resistance to Tamiflu in strains of influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus detected in Hong Kong since 2009.

自 2012 年1月 13日起，衞生防護中心聯同醫院管理局及私家醫院監察流感相關而需入住深切治療部或死亡個案(年齡為十八歲 或以上)的統計數字。截至 5 月 9 日，本中心目前共錄得 150 宗流感相關而需入住深切治療部或死亡的個案，當中89 宗為死亡個案。

Influenza-like illness surveillance among sentinel general outpatient clinics escalates.

In week 18, the number of influenza viruses
detected in the Public Health Laboratory Centre was
329, including 296 influenza A (H3) viruses, 25
influenza B viruses, 6 influenza A(H1N1)2009
viruses and 2 influenza A viruses.
在第 18 週，公共衞生檢測中心共檢測到 329 個
流行性感冒病毒的樣本，當中包括 296 個甲型
(H3)流感病毒樣本、25 個乙型流感病毒樣本、6
個甲型(H1N1)2009 流感病毒樣本及 2 個甲型流
感病毒樣本。

In week 18, 16 ILI outbreaks occurring in schools
institutions were recorded. In the first 4
days of week 19 (May 6 to 9, 2012), 18 ILI
outbreaks occurring in schools/ institutions were
recorded.
在第18 週，本中心錄得16 宗在學校/院舍發生的
流感樣爆發的報告。第 19 週的首 4 天
(2012年5月6至9日)有18宗在學校/院舍發生的
流感樣爆發的報告。

From May 2, 2012, 12:00 noon to May 9, 2012, 12:00 noon, 10 cases of influenza associated ICU admissions or deaths were recorded, in which 5 of them were fatal. In addition, one previously reported case who required ICU admission passed away during this reporting period.
2012年5月2日中午12時至2012年5月9日中午12時期間共錄得10宗與流感相關而需入住深切治療 部或死亡的個案，當中5宗為死亡個案。另外，有1宗早前報告與流感相關而需入住深切治療部的個案在此報告期 間死亡。
