    Dengue death toll goes up to 32 in Nellai; one dies in Tuticorin

    Three more dengue patients including a four-month-old girl baby, died on Monday, taking the death toll in the district to 32.

    While A. Muthulakshmi (7) of Surandai, died in the small hours of Monday due to dengue, G. Meena (35) of Ravanasamudram and K. Krithiga, a four-month-old from Lakshmiyoor near Alangulam, died on Monday after being admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital with dengue.

    Even as the Department of Health Services officials are claiming that the outbreak would be completely controlled within a week, influx of fresh cases to TVMCH is still continuing.

        Tamil Nadu to strengthen measures to control dengue fever

        Chennai: With reports of dengue fever spreading in some southern districts of the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday stepped in to strengthen measures to control it, which has so far claimed 29 lives.

        Ms Jayalalithaa, who chaired a high-level meeting in the wake of the spread of fever in Tirunelveli district, asked the officials to take measures on a war footing to contain the fever and asked the people not to panic.

        Of the 1466 people hospitalised due to fever, 817 have been diagnosed with dengue. Of these, 423 patients are still undergoing treatment and the others have been discharged, the Chief Minister said.

          Namakkal (TN), May 25 (PTI) The Centre would provide all help to Tamil Nadu in tackling the outbreak of dengue fever which has claimed 29 lives in Tirunelveli district and neighbouring areas, Union Minister of State for Health S Gandhiselvan has said. The Centre had deputed a six-member team of doctors from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi led by Dr Nirmal Joe to visit the affected areas and it would submit a report on the situation, he told reporters here last night.

          Baby dies in Madurai, 5 patients in Cumbum

          MADURAI/CUMBUM: An eight-month-old baby died of suspected dengue in Madurai on Thursday, while five others tested positive for the fever in Cumbum.
          Another two-year-old girl, who tested positive for dengue, is undergoing treatment at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai.
          According to City Health Officer V Subramanian, Bargana, daughter of Peer Mohamed from Poondhamallee Nagar in Sellur, who died of suspected dengue, was in Tenkasi for 10 days.

          The first dengue fever casualty in Madurai district occurred on Thursday as an eight-month old baby died at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here.

          Farhana, the girl child of Pasupathi Street in Poonamallee Nagar in Sellur, was admitted to the GRH on Wednesday with a complaint of fever. Medical tests confirmed ?positive' and even as the treatment was being given at the paediatric wing of the hospital, she died on Thursday morning.

          District Malaria Officer Latha Freeda Joan said that the baby was at Tenkasi from May 10 to 18. Back in Madurai, she was down with fever from May 20 and was admitted to the GRH on May 23. Despite treatment for dengue, she died.

            MADURAI/TIRUNELVELI/CUMBUM: Ten more persons ? eight in Cumbum and two children in Madurai ? tested positive for dengue on Friday and are undergoing treatment in various government hospitals. In Cumbum, over a 100 people who had fever tested themselves for dengue on Friday.

            The fish fed on the mosquito larvae thereby reducing the chances for adult mosquitoes hatching.

              One more succumbs to dengue

              MADURAI/COIMBATORE: A 32-year-old man succumbed to dengue at a private hospital in Tirunelveli on Friday night, where the epidemic first broke out. Muthuraman alias Ramesh (32) from Kallidaikurichi who was a BE graduate in the district was admitted in a private hospital on May 21 and he succumbed after his condition worsened on Friday. With the death of Ramesh, the death toll in Ambasamuthram taluk alone has gone up to five.

              Meanwhile, seven more persons were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai on Saturday with symptoms of the vector-borne infection, even as state health officials grappled with the alarming spread of dengue in the southern districts. Four of them were referred from Theni district indicating the spread of the disease further south.

                No respite from dengue cases

                CHENNAI/MADURAI/COIMBATORE: Fifteen more persons with suspected dengue fever have been admitted to hospitals in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore districts even as health authorities carried out fogging and spraying operations to contain the spread of the disease.
                In Chennai, three more cases were reported taking the total number of cases detected in the city to 129 this year. Health officials said that the patients were responding to treatment. Screening camps have been organised at major railway stations as the authorities were worried that people from the southern region coming to city could be bringing the virus along with them.
                In Madurai, seven new dengue positive patients were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) on Saturday.

                The scene is not very different in Coimbatore where, despite claims of adequate preventive measures by health authorities, five more persons with symptoms of dengue have been admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital in the past two days.

                  11-month-old boy dies of dengue in Nagercoil

                  MADURAI BUREAU

                  A 11-month-old boy died of dengue in Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam here on Saturday.

                  According to Health officials, Sundarapandian, son of Murugan of Radhapuram in Tirunelveli district, was admitted to the hospital Saturday after getting treatment at a private hospital at Radhapuram for more than a week. But he succumbed in the medical college hospital. Blood sample tested on Sunday confirmed it was dengue.

                  The district also recorded a suspected dengue death in a private hospital here on Sunday. Boomika, daughter of Murugan of Unnamalakadai, was admitted to the private hospital with fever on Saturday. She died without responding to the treatment. Her blood sample had been collected and whether her death was due to dengue would be confirmed on Monday, said Health Department sources.

                      HASSAN: Two people died of suspected dengue fever in Hassan on Sunday morning.
                      The deceased have been identified as Munavar (50) and Syed Ibrahim (49) from Pension Mohalla Extension.
                      According to sources, the duo were suffering from fever for the last fortnight and though they had admitted to the Chamarajendra Government Hospital here two days ago, they did not respond to treatment.

                        KARUR: An eight-year-old girl who contracted the deadly dengue disease died here on Monday.

                        S Harshini, a third standard students and daughter of Somasundaram, a driver residing in Koyampalli village in Karur was admitted to a private hospital in Karur a few days back after she developed symptoms of dengue. Later, she was shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore. During the tests, she tested positive to dengue fever. Despite the treatment, she failed to recover and died on Monday.

                            Rs 1.20 crore for dengue drive

                            TIRUNELVELI: The Tamil Nadu government has allotted Rs 1.20 crore for Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital exclusively to improve the infrastructure and medical facilities for dengue patients, said Dean M Manoharan.
                            Speaking to newsmen at the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital on Monday, Dean Manoharan said that 1977 persons had undergone treatment so far at the hospital for dengue fever.

                              Rameswaram (TN), May 31 (PTI) A two-year old girl succumbed to dengue fever at Pamban near here, as the toll in the virus outbreak in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu rose to 37, officials said today. The child was discharged yesterday after being treated at a hospital but her condition worsened and she died last night at her house, they said. Meanwhile, three persons were admitted to the Ramanathapuram Government hospital with dengue symptoms.

                              29-year-old woman dies of dengue in city hospital

                              CHENNAI: A 29-year-old woman died at a private hospital in the city on Wednesday evening following a hemorrhagic shock caused by dengue. Manjula, a mentally ill woman, was brought to KHM Hospitals in Anna Nagar last Wednesday with fever and body pain. She was diagnosed with dengue on May 26 but did not respond to treatment.
