GURDASPUR/PATHANKOT: Panic gripped the region with swine flu killing two persons - one each in Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts. The health department has issued an advisory to people asking them to report to the local civil hospitals in case of any swine flu symptoms, including high fever and unconsciousness.

According to Kahnuwan SMO Dr Kishan Kumar, Kartar Sungh, a home gaurd jawan posted at Kahnuwan police station, had died of swine flu in an Amritsar hospital on Wednesday night.

With another swine flu patient, Poonam (40) of Prem Nagar in Karnal, dying at Jaipur Golden Hospital, Delhi, the death toll in Karnal district has risen to four while 11 of the 24 suspected HINI patients have tested positive for the virus.

The samples of Priyanka (22) and Om Prakash (48) were also found to be positive, raising the number of swine flu patients in Karnal to 11. The samples of Garima and Ganganath were sent for testing today .

Cases of swine flu on the rise in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: H1N1 Influenza A cases have been reported from various parts of the region. Since September 2012, seventeen H1N1 positive cases have been reported from Chandigarh.

Health authorities said emphasis is laid on contact tracing so that chemoprophylaxis can be provided to the high risk contacts in order to limit the infection further.

Visits to the positive patients and their contacts are being carried out in order to provide necessary chemoprophylaxis.

Instructions have been given to the positive patients and their contacts to remain quarantined for a period of one week.

24x7 hours emergency ward has been established in GMSH-16 and at CH-Manimajra with all supportive equipments and life saving medicines.

LUDHIANA: Swine flu continues to scare the city as the health department authorities confirmed two more positive cases of the disease on Saturday.

Dr Anil Verma, epidemiologist at civil surgeon's office, said, "Two patients from Christian Medical College tested positive for swine flu. Both are Ludhiana residents."

3 H1N1 cases reported

CHANDIGARH: Three new cases of H1N1 were reported in the city on Sunday. These included one case from Sector 15 and two from Punjab. A one and a half year old child from Sector 15 has also been admitted in PGI.
The total number of cases reported in the Tricity since September 2012 has reached 19.

The number of cases reported at all the three government city hospitals in the city has risen to 55.

These include seven deaths, two from the city and five from the region.

The health department on Tuesday registered another case of swine flu, putting the count of positive swine flu cases at two and one death.

The latest case was reported by Aarvy Hospital, wherein a 39-year-old man from Sector 49 tested positive for the H1N1 virus. He has been quarantined at his residence.

"Suspected cases of swine flu have started to come in. We test one sample every day," said a junior official of the department on the condition of anonymity.

However, disparity exists in the figures of cases provided by the Gurgaon health department and private hospitals.

While the health department has tagged H1N1 cases at two with one death, private hospitals put the figure at three positive cases and one death.
