Ro's note: Express India is double counting some fatalities, three of these have already been accounted for. The earlier Times article above reported 2 earlier fatalities from Ahmedabad, and 1 from Rajkot, this report suggests 4 total 3 from Rajkot and 1 from Ahmedabad. Hard to say what's what until todays National Status Update is released.

10 more swine flu deaths is Gujarat, toll touches 158

Ahmedabad, Jan 10 (PTI) Ten more deaths due to swine flu have been reported in Gujarat in the last few days taking the toll due to the deadly virus to 158 in the state, health officials said.

Nafisa Vora (27) died at civil hospital here today, they said.

                Nikita Ramesh (30)
and Jitendra Chauhan (42) died at civil hospital in Ahmedabad while Mehul Choraliya (4) and Shobhana Morani (42) succumbed to swine flu at Rajkot civil hospital.

Kashiben Dabhi (50) succumbed to the infection at Bhuj civil hospital in Kutch district yesterday, the officials said, adding three deaths from Rajkot and one from Ahmedabad have also been reported.

Ro's Note: 3 more fatalities recorded here, and PTI is reporting a total of 158. The national update released today has the total for Gujarat at 152, and probably does not include some of the above. It seems that the Express India total was fine, and that the Times is starting to lag.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said Rajkot is a medical hub for Saurashtra and Kutch regions. A large number of people from these regions come to the city for treatment and therefore the government has decided to start a laboratory with bio-safety grade hospital here, the Minister said.

The laboratory will start functioning within a week, Vyas said, adding the facility will have experts to conduct swine flu test.

Currently, samples from here are being sent to Ahmedabad for H1N1 test, which delays swine flu treatment, he added.
