    Dengue raises head in Indiranagar
    July 27, 2012 DC Bengaluru

Dreaded dengue claimed the life of one more woman on Wednesday evening, taking the toll in the city and surrounding areas to five over the last few days. But the BBMP, which has confirmed only two deaths till now, again refused to say that Wednesday?s death was due to dengue. The latest victim, Shobha Rajkumar (33), a resident of Jeevanbimanagar, was in hospital for the last one week. She was diagnosed with suspected dengue fever and died on Wednesday evening at a private hospital in Indiranagar. She is survived by her husband Rajkumar, who is a driver, and 14-year-old son.

2 more dengue deaths in city
        July 29, 2012 DC Bengaluru

The BBMP first downplayed the suspected dengue deaths and the spread of the disease across Bengaluru. Now, the civic body is allegedly playing dirty by threatening hospital authorities to refrain from giving reports about positive dengue cases. On Saturday, two more people succumbed to dengue fever in the city taking the toll so far to seven. Aftab Alam (21), a resident of Nagavara, and Manjula (26) of Herohalli in Madeshnagar died on Saturday afternoon.

        Two more succumb to virus
        Hetal Vyas, TNN | Jul 29, 2012, 02.27AM IST

BANGALORE: Seven deaths in seven days. The deadly dengue virus claimed two lives on Saturday in Bangalore. After Aftab Alam, 21, a resident of Nagavara and Manjula, 26, a resident of Mahadevapura, (both in East Bangalore) died of suspected dengue, the toll of dengue deaths in the city touched seven since July 20.

However, the state health department is in denial. As per the records of the department of communicable diseases, health and family welfare department, 10 people have died of dengue in Karnataka so far, of which three are in Bangalore (two in Bangalore Urban and one in Bangalore Rural). The number of positive cases has risen from 871 to 1184 between July 24 and July 27.

City records another suspected dengue death
          July 30, 2012 DC Bengaluru

Even as the BBMP got into action mode to prevent the spread of dengue, the city registered yet another death due to suspected dengue on Sunday. The victim, 6-year- old Trupthi E, resident of Anekal is said to have died of suspected dengue at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health (IGICH), but hospital director Dr M.L. Siddaraju did not confirm the same. She was admitted to IGICH four days ago, who was shifted from a private nursing home.

BBMP trying to hush up deaths
            July 31, 2012 DC Bengaluru

Around eight people have died and over 200 are suffering from dengue fever as the BBMP has failed to keep mosquitoes under control in the city. What is worse is that the BBMP is not willing to face facts and may even be fudging the figures of positive cases and deaths. It has already expressed annoyance with private hospitals for declaring that deaths are due to dengue.

Aftab Alam, a resident of Nagawara was admitted to a hospital for treatment. His report states clearly that he was suffering from dengue fever and had a low platelet count. He did not respond to the treatment and died on Saturday. The BBMP allegedly persuaded the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Hospital authorities to issue another report stating that his was not a dengue death.
            ...
The BBMP claims the deaths are due to multiple-organ failure, refusing to acknowledge what caused the organs to fail.

The BBMP continues to deny that there is a serious dengue outbreak in the city and has gone to the extent of threatening to file a complaint against the doctor who has given a report confirming that the death of the latest victim, 28-year-old Dakshayani, on Friday, was due to dengue.

Another victim, Suresh (32), a resident of Sarkar Guttahalli in Hoskote, who was being treated at Medihope hospital in C.V. Raman Nagar for complaints of fever and chill, died the same day.

KOLKATA: Dengue is swarming the city this season. Doctors agree that it may be the worst outbreak since 2005.

The actual intensity is still being assessed, but the indications are grim. Hospitals on the fringes have admitted scores of dengue patients in the last four weeks but the actual number of victims is many times more because only about 20% cases need hospitalization.
