Une grippe de très haute intensité

13/02/2013 Communiqué | La grippe a atteint le niveau de "très haute intensité", selon les critères approuvés par l'OMS. Le niveau de consultation pour symptome grippal mesuré cette semaine n'a jamais été aussi élevé, en comparaison avec les cinq dernières années.

Une plus grande partie de la population est touchée

Le nombre de cas de grippe rapporté par les médecins Vigie continue à progresser. Entre le 4 février et le 10 février 2013, environ 1083 Belges sur 100.000 ont consulté leur médecin pour un syndrome grippal. Ce nombre de consultations se situe au-dessus du niveau de très haute intensité (seuil fixé à 1083,7 consultations sur 100.000 Belges par semaine). Raison pour laquelle nous commencons à parler d’une épidémie de très forte intensité. Cela traduit une grande circulation du virus dans la population. "Depuis les cinq dernières années, le taux de consultations pour un symptome grippal n'a jamais été aussi élevé”, explique le Dr Fançoise Wuillaume, épidémiologiste à l’Institut Scientifique de Santé Publique (WIV-ISP). Elle précise également que "si le nombre de personnes atteintes de syndromes grippaux est élevé, la sévérité de l'infection reste, quant à elle, modérée". "La surveillance a montré que les médecins généralistes, les pédiatres et les hôpitaux ont une charge de travail élevée, mais la sévérité des cas est semblable à l'année dernière, ce qui est considéré comme modéré", ajoute-t-elle encore.

D’après le WIV-ISP, il est cependant trop tôt pour parler de pic. Pour cela, il faut attendre une diminution du nombre de cas.

Les plus touchés

L’augmentation se manifeste dans toutes les catégories d’âge, surtout chez les adultes. La tendance observée ces dernières semaines se poursuit donc.

La grippe touche la Flandre, la Wallonie et Bruxelles de façon similaire. Sur 100.000 Belges, une proportion identique de personnes ont consulté leur médecin pour la grippe dans les trois régions.

Comment limiter la transmission de la grippe ?

N'importe qui peut limiter la transmission de la grippe. Veillez à toujours éternuer ou tousser dans un mouchoir et surtout, jetez votre mouchoir après utilisation. Si vous n'avez pas de mouchoir, éternuez ou toussez dans votre coude, pas dans vos mains. Lavez-vous les mains fréquemment avec du savon et de l'eau, surtout après avoir utilisé les transports en commun. Si vous ressentez les symptômes de la grippe, restez à la maison, jusqu'à au moins 1 jour après que la fièvre ait disparu.

Les virus en circulation

« Parmi les virus identifiés, l’influenza B est encore bien présent, avec une légère diminution du nombre de virus influenza A.

Jusqu’à présent, les virus qui circulent en Belgique correspondent bien aux souches qui se trouvent dans le vaccin contre la grippe », explique Steven Van Gucht, virologue et Chef de service 'maladies virales' de l’Institut Scientifique de Santé Publique (WIV-ISP).

La grippe progresse aussi dans les pays voisins

Le nombre de cas de grippe rapporté par les médecins continue à progresser. Les bulletins Influenza des pays voisins indiquent que le nombre de cas de grippe continue à augmenter.
