Health authorities agreed at the 9th Meeting of the State Security Committee on Health, to continue the implementation of preventive measures and the installation of filters on school campuses to return to class next Monday.

The state commissioner Influenza A H1N1, Jos? Manuel Ernesto Murillo, who also presided over the meeting, said that although so far, is under control the pandemic of influenza A H1N1 in the state, should remain vigilant and seek to receive medical attention at the presentation of the characteristic symptoms of this disease: fever over 38.5 degrees, sudden onset and persistent cough, severe headache, sore throat, runny nose and malaise. The doctor will determine the treatment to follow in each case.

According to the latest report issued by the Situation Room of the Ministry of Health, the number of cases of influenza A (H1N1) confirmed since the beginning of the epidemic is 2.948 cases, among which include 33 deaths registered related to virus so far.

Most people who become infected with influenza virus experience mild symptoms similar to seasonal flu, and recover in the span of about 7 to 10 days. During this time we need to stay at home and extreme preventive measures such as use of masks, frequent hand washing and not sharing utensils to avoid spreading the virus to other family members or persons.

It is important to monitor the evolution of the sick, especially if they have risk factors for developing complications. In case of worsening health status, or the appearance of some warning signs such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, bloody sputum, and confusion or drowsiness, you need to go to a hospital for immediate treatment. In the case of young children who can not express what happens, we must monitor the persistence of high fever for more than three days and the onset of rapid breathing, food refusal, irritability and / or convulsions and decay . Given these symptoms, it is also important to take the child to a hospital unit.

People who have chronic diseases and respiratory diseases such as diabetes mellitus or decompensated asthma, those with morbid obesity and pregnant women are at greatest risk of developing complications to infection by influenza A (H1N1).

Continued free vaccination in health centers

Vaccination against influenza virus A (H1N1) continues in the health centers of the Ministry of Health of Michoac?n. This measure is particularly recommended for those with risk factors mentioned above as well as for people who care for children under six months old and for children 6 to 24 months of age. In the latter, you should apply two doses, four weeks after the first application.

In addition to vaccination, should continue to monitor the hygiene and protection measures that reduce transmission of the virus. It is necessary to keep washing your hands often with soap and water, care to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of the elbow when you sneeze or cough.

It is also important that parents do not drop our guard and continue to monitor the health of children. Before the onset of symptoms characteristic of this disease should take them to the nearest health center and to prevent sick people from going to school or work.
