Swine flu claims two more victims in Iran
    Sep 16, 2009 at 16:19

Two Iranian children have died after contracting swine flu, taking the number of A(H1N1) virus victims to four in Iran, the official IRNA news agency said on Wednesday.

Abbas Zareh Nejad, a spokesman for Iran's Health Ministry, said the victims were under two years old and had been "susceptible to cerebral disease".

He added that 391 people have so far been infected in Iran.

Iran reported its first swine flu death, that of a 36-year-old female drug addict, on Aug. 26.

As a precaution against the disease spreading, the authorities banned pilgrims from travelling to Mecca in Saudi Arabia during the current holy month of Ramadan.

Iran has also placed restrictions on pilgrims for the Muslim annual hajj expected to begin on Nov. 19.

This looks like neurological symptoms related to the new H1N1.

Iran's swine flu death toll rises to six
      Fri, 02 Oct 2009 10:38:40 GMT

Iranian health officials have reported two more swine flu deaths in the country, bringing the total toll of the fatal disease to six.

"Two more people have died of the swine flu during the past week to increase the number of the country's victims to six," Fars news quoted the Director of the Health Ministry's Flu Program and Border Health Care, Mahmoud Soroush, as saying on Friday.

"The two new swine flu victims included an adult and a child who died due to weakness of their immune systems," he added.

Previously four individuals including a 36-year-old woman, a 96-year-old man and two children aged less than two had died because of the virus.

"Unfortunately, the Iranians have not taken the disease outbreak seriously despite the country's Health Ministry's recommendations to obey health rules," he explained.

Soroush also urged Iranian people to avoid unnecessary trips to countries in which the swine flu outbreak has been reported.

According to the Iranian health official, a total of 422 confirmed A/H1N1 cases have so far been identified in the country.

The country's officials maintain that adopting simple precautionary measures such as washing hands frequently, using a tissue at the time of coughing and sneezing and avoiding kissing can contain the virus.

Swine Flu Takes More Toll in Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- The death of an 8-year-old boy infected with H1N1 virus increased the number of swine flu fatalities to seven in Iran, the health ministry announced on Wednesday.

"With the identification of 54 more patients recently infected with flu type A, the total number of the swine flu cases reached 476 in Iran while the number of the dead rose to 7 with the death of an 8-year-old child," Deputy Health Minister Hassan Emami told FNA.

Emami also reiterated that the number of infected people is expected to hike due to the start of the cold season.

He urged Iranians to observe the rules of hygiene seriously and avoid close contact with patients.

Swine flu is a contagious respiratory disease which is a mixture of bird, pig and human genes. The virus can spread to people who have contact with infected pigs. It spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes around someone else. People can become infected by touching something with the flu virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes.

People can't get swine flu from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly cooked pork is safe. Cooking meat to an internal temperature of 160?F kills viruses and bacteria.

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to the common flu: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue, and sometimes diarrhea and vomiting. Swine flu also can cause pneumonia, which can make it hard to breathe.

TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (Mehr News Agency) ? The Iranian Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that three more persons have died of swine flu virus over the last week, bringing the number of patients who have died so far of the H1N1 disease to 10 in the country.

The Health Ministry also announced that the number of patients diagnosed with N1H1 virus has jumped from 476 to 649 over the last few days.

Just over the last few days 173 new cases of swine flu diseases have been reported in the country, said Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Gooya, the director of the center for infectious diseases.

Dr. Gooya said this increase has been mostly noticed among students in certain cities.

            Iran's Swine Flu Cases Rising

TEHRAN (FNA)- The health ministry announced on Wednesday that the number of Iranians infected with swine flu virus (H1N1) reached 1194, warning that the country should wait for an impending outbreak of the disease, specially in school seasons.

"The disease has spread more in cities like Qom, Arak (in central Iran) and some cities of Sistan and Balouchestan province (in southeastern Iran) during the last week and the disease has even claimed the life of a student in one of these cities," Deputy Health Minister Hassan Emami Razai told reporters here in Tehran today.

He reiterated that most of the patients diagnosed with flu in the said regions in Iran have been infected with the H1N1 virus, noting that the disease is spreading very quickly in the country.

Emami Razavi also announced that the death toll has now risen to 16, most of whom, he said, suffered immune system deficiencies.

Emami strongly advised people to hold off on their traditionally warm greetings, foregoing hugs and kisses to tourists returning from other countries to contain the spread of infection.

Swine flu is a contagious respiratory disease which is a mixture of bird, pig and human genes. The virus can spread to people who have contact with infected pigs. TEHRAN - Twenty-two Iranians have so far died from swine flu and hundreds more have been infected, the health ministry said in a report Wednesday by the official IRNA news agency.
