Iceland reported its first death from swine flu on Monday, an 18-year-old girl with severe disabilities, health authorities in the country said.
- An 18 year-old disabled girl died this morning at the Hringur Children's Hospital due to the influenza A(H1N1) - the country's chief epidemiologist said in a statement.
The girl became ill 11 days ago and was hospitalised on Thursday.
The A(H1N1) virus has killed at least 4,735 people since it was first reported in April in Mexico, according to a WHO tally.
Most deaths occurred in the Americas region, where 3,406 fatalities have been reported.
Some 962 people have died from the infection in the Asia-Pacific region, while at least 207 fatal cases have been recorded in Europe.
