    2nd flu victim dies

    H1N1 claims another McCrearian
    Record Staff Report

SOMERSET ? McCreary County has lost a second citizen to the H1N1 virus, more commonly known as swine flu.

Last week, the Lake Cumberland District Health Department reported the death of a 70-year-old McCreary County male who passed away at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. There were significant underlying medical conditions present in addition to the positive H1N1 influenza diagnosis.

The first death for McCreary County came in late October, when a 54-year-old woman died at a Tennessee hospital.

As this wave may have peaked, LCDHD is offering H1N1 vaccine to the general public ? including those outside the priority groups. McCreary County?s next H1N1 clinic will be Thursday, December 10 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the McCreary County Health Department. The clinic held last Thursday dispensed 102 vaccinations, according to Public Health Services Coordinator Amy C. Tomlinson.

?While we are still emphasizing CDC priority groups to get the vaccine, this is the first time we have opened up mass H1N1 clinics to the general public and we need very much to get the word out,? LCDHD Director Shawn D. Crabtree said. ?We are still in the middle of an H1N1 Pandemic and additional waves of the outbreak may well come.?
