Santa Barbara County Public Health Officials released the following information Wednesday:

A student at Santa Maria High School has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB).

The family, Santa Maria Joint Union School District and Santa Barbara County Public Health Department are working together to assure the ill student receives treatment and that others are screened to rule out TB infection or disease...

Santa Barbara health officials have been quietly working for months to contain a tuberculosis (TB) outbreak, and are now ramping up suppression efforts after publicly announcing that a Santa Maria High School student has been diagnosed with the infectious disease.
