There has been one Swine flu-related death in Mendocino County, and eight patients were admitted to local hospitals with confirmed H1N1 cases, the Mendocino County Public Health Branch reported Wednesday.

A Northern Mendocino County man died Dec. 30 from "chronic conditions which were complicated" by the Swine flu, according to an update released by Public Health Wednesday. The report comes less than 24 hours after Public Health announced Tuesday afternoon that there had been no H1N1-related deaths in Mendocino County.

The Wednesday report says the H1N1 strain "appears to be the most predominant strain circulating in California and the rest of the United States this flu season."

A floor in the Fresno County Jail continues to be on lockdown after an inmate was hospitalized with the H1N1 virus.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Department, the inmate started to feel sick two days ago. He was treated at the jail but got worse. He is currently at Community Regional Medical Center and is in serious condition. Deputies believe the man contracted the virus while in custody.
