High rates of female deaths from pneumonia and diabetes

Maternal mortality (MM), pneumonia, HIV / AIDS, cancers and diabetes, severely affect the health of Mexicans aged 15 to 44 years old, and leaves them at a disadvantage compared to women of other nationalities, says Rosario Cardenas , a researcher at the UNAM.
    *
In an article in the biannual "demographic window", the former head of the Mexican Society of Demography (Somede) notes that the MM is just one indicator that shows the inequality for women of childbearing age in Mexico.
    *
Indicates that the MM in the country is 20 times higher than estimated in Japan, China, where the number of female population is "very similar" to Mexico. While in Mexico in 2005 was just over 26 million women between 15 and 44 years, Japan had 23.5 million women in that age group.
    *
In that same year, Mexico recorded 242 thousand maternal deaths, while Japan only 62 states in the edited Cardenas in collaboration with the College of Mexico, UAM, the Institute for Social Research at the UNAM, and the Colegio de la Frontera North.
    *
She explains that in the case of the United States were reported in 2005, 4 million 138 000 349 births (nearly twice the births occurred in Mexico), and 702 maternal deaths (only 57 percent of those registered in our country) .
    *
The expert noted that pneumonia among young Mexican women should be considered a public health problem by high mortality rates generated.
    *
"The international comparison reveals that (pneumonia) should be considered a public health problem, since mortality from this cause is two to four times that of Chile, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, USA, Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweden and Japan, "he explains.
    *
In the case of deaths from HIV / AIDS, the standardized mortality rate per 100,000 women was 2.2 for Mexico, doubling for Chile, with 1.1, and that of Costa Rica with 0.9. The rate in our country is six to nine times that of developed nations analyzed.
    *
Rosario Cardenas indicates that in the case of cancer, the breast has a mortality of less than or similar to the rest of the nine countries studied, but clear-the-stomach and cervical carry a risk of death between two and three times higher to other countries.
    *
Regarding diabetes, women's health picture is disturbing, since Mexico has resulted in three to four times more deaths than in Costa Rica, the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and 10 times higher compared to the other countries.
    *
The UNAM specialist adds that while the MM is one of the major health problems afflicting women of childbearing age is not the only cause serious affects survival.
    *
Cardenas states that the information used for the study comes from the databases of the World Health Organization, 2012.
