Swine Flu Claims Two More Maine Lives
    12/02/2009 05:15 PM ET
The two recent victims, both from Penobscot County, had serious underlying health conditions, state health officials say.

Two more people have died in Maine after contracting swine flu, bringing the total number of deaths in the state attributed to the illness to 11.

Both of the recent victims were from Penobscot county, and were between the ages of 50 and 65, says Maine Center for Disease Control Director Dr. Dora Mills. They both had "multiple serious underlying health conditions," Mills says.

"While most people with H1N1 in Maine and the nation have had a relatively mild infection, this news demonstrates how severe influenza can be, especially in adults with underlying conditions, pregnant women, and children," Mills says in a statement.

The previous nine deaths include a York County man in his 50's, a young adult from Penobscot County, five adults ages 25 - 65, one each from Penobscot County, Hancock County, Washington County, Androscoggin County, and Franklin County, and two adults older than 65, one from Kennebec County and one from Penobscot County.
