    THERE has been a fresh outbreak of typhoid in Harare as the city council battles to address the water crisis which has seen many suburbs going for weeks with dry taps.

    The latest weekly surveillance report from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, show that 28 cases of typhoid have been reported countrywide, 13 of these in Harare alone.

    The erratic supply of running water has resulted in many Harare residents seeking alternative sources which include unsafe water points.

    ?Most people now rely on water from boreholes, many of which are contaminated. The local authority has also been blamed for not providing necessary health information on safe water sources,? reads the report for week 52...

    Typhoid Outbreak Hits Mabvuku

    A Typhoid outbreak has hit Mabvuku high density suburb with at least nine cases confirmed so far. The suburb, which has been prone to typhoid outbreaks on a yearly basis, especially during the rainy season, has gone for four months without water supplies.

    CHRA local ward leaders noted an influx in diarrheal related diseases which prompted them to make enquiries on the issue from the Mabvuku Poly clinic officials who admitted that they have treated typhoid patients and are suspecting that more residents could be affected...

      AN outbreak of typhoid is feared in Mabvuku amid reports that nine cases of the disease have so far been treated at a council clinic in the suburb.

      The Combined Harare Residents Association (Chra) said it became aware of the outbreak after its ward leaders noted a rapid increase of diarrhoeal diseases, prompting them to make enquiries.

      ?Mabvuku Poly Clinic officials admitted that they have treated typhoid patients and are suspecting that more residents could be affected,? said a Chra spokesperson.

      However, Harare City Council director of health services, Prosper Chonzi said he was not aware of any typhoid outbreaks...

        Typhoid fears rise in Harare

        THIRTY-NINE new suspected cases of typhoid have been reported in the country amid fears of a major outbreak of the disease, it has emerged.

        According to a weekly surveillance report from the ministry of Health and Child Care for week ending March 23,the country continued to witness an increasing number of suspected cases of typhoid every week.

        The report said of the 39 new suspected typhoid cases reported in the one week, 26 were in Harare alone.

        Since the beginning of the year, there have been 18 confirmed cases of typhoid, 181 suspected cases and three deaths...
