Despite all other indicators suggesting that Maine is past peak (%ILI, P&I deaths, number and % positive flu cases), there was a spike in hospitalizations in Week 12 that is the highest level this season and very close to the peak in the fall of 2009. Since the number of ILI ED cases is below baseline, it appears that there are fewer flu cases, but a higher percentage could be serious cases.
