Dr LDSH Devi, nodal officer for swine flu in the district, said, "The man was admitted with fever and usual flu-like symptoms on March 26. His blood samples were sent to a lab in Mumbai for tests and the reports, which reached the city on Saturday, confirmed that he was suffering from swine flu. He is a little serious and is on ventilator. The patient has a travel history and had recently been to Mahabaleshwar and Tirupati. However, none of the family members have been affected and necessary medication was administered to them as a precautionary measure."

A 28-year-old seven-month pregnant woman from Muralinagar died of swine flu on January 29, making it the first H1N1 case and death in the city since March 2013. According to district health officials, while there were five H1N1 deaths in 2009, the number rose to 10 in 2010 and two died in 2012.

"There's no reason to panic as it's just a sporadic swine flu case. We are doing house-to-house surveillance to ensure there's no chance of swine flu becoming a pandemic in the city," stated Dr Devi.

Four more patients admitted with suspected swine flu symptoms undergoing treatment. Low temperatures and sporadic showers in and around the capital too may have played a role in the sudden rise in cases of swine flue, doctors said.

After a lull, cases of swine flu in Hyderabad seem to be on the rise with health officials confirming on Wednesday that three persons had died due to complications arising out of swine flu in Hyderabad. Of the three, one male (35) and one female (25), died at the State-run Gandhi Hospital and another male patient died in an ambulance while being shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad from Siddipet.

Currently, four more patients, two in Gandhi Hospital and two in corporate hospitals in Hyderabad, have been admitted with suspected swine flu symptoms and are undergoing treatment. Health officials have maintained that the last 10 days have seen a spurt in cases of swine flu here. All patients getting admitted with swine flu symptoms are from Hyderabad, indicating that the virus is endemic and has not been imported.

Swine Flu In India Claims 8 Lives In Telangana, Andhra Pradesh; Bird Flu Alert In Other States

India?s southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are dealing with swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, which has so far killed eight people in the two states. In the country's north, officials are attempting to contain a suspected case of avian flu in local birds.
Three people died in the newly-formed state of Telangana while five people in neighboring Andhra Pradesh succumbed to swine flu, IBN, a local news network reported. At least 11 people in the western city of Pune, near Mumbai, tested positive for swine flu while one of them is in critical condition, according to The Times of India, a local newspaper. Doctors have also warned that low temperatures during winter could cause the virus to last longer in the atmosphere.
Swine flu is a respiratory infection that weakens the immune system and attacks organs like the lungs, causing pneumonia. The flu can become fatal if the infection spreads to damage other organs. Early symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, and sore throat.
