Cordova recommends epidemiological vigilance in Nuevo Leon

MONTERREY (Notimex) .- The Federal Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos, today recommended epidemiological extremely vigilant about the possible outbreak of dengue fever, hepatitis and cholera, after flooding caused by Hurricane Alex''New'' Leon.

After leading the Meeting of the Emergency Committee for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Epidemic, said that''so far there has been an increase in the number of cases, which referred the situation is completely controlled.''

He pointed out that dengue is''perhaps the problem that most concerns us, because it is impossible to have control of the mosquitoes when there are so many places where water collects.''

Then,''he emphasized, "the campaigns through the use of Abbe, fumigation and aerial spraying sometimes need to be strengthened.''

He said the use of colloidal silver to sterilize water for drinking water becomes, which has already been distributed to all sites, is the first priority.

The following priorities''is the power being on a strict epidemiological surveillance to detect outbreaks of any epidemic that can be developed by several factors,''he said.

First, she said, for the same clusters that exist in shelters, where conditions are not exactly the home, although many of the shelters are very good.

It also should be monitoring the quality of food, water sold.

Even when cases are developed to do something that is the responsibility of all doctors in or outside the institutions is the mandatory reporting of cases of diseases that can pose a risk, he added.

He said that''such as this could be an epidemic of hepatitis or the presence of cholera or diarrhea increased.''

Until now''all monitoring they are doing an excellent job in the state has shown that there has been an increase in the number of cases, which referred the situation is completely controlled,''he said.

He mentioned that the entity has displaced two vaccines that are not used regularly, but for cases of epidemic risk are very important.

These, she said, hepatitis vaccine and varicella vaccine.

He argued that''there are other risks that may occur as it is when animals are killed and all the garbage that accumulates where there may be organic, decomposing.''

For these cases, he suggested,''is that Calearo, put lime to prevent development there exist germs that can contaminate water or food contamination.''

He warned that''in some cases where flooding persists and people are living together in places, getting wet, you can have another disease that is more rare, but is presented and can be fatal leptospirosis is called.''

This disease has a treatment and then again, the important thing is to make the diagnosis, notice, in some cases to strengthen the siege epidemiology and vaccination, he said.

The federal official said that''the most common diseases we see, even before diarrhea when there are problems of flooding, are the skin.''

He noted that skin changes occur sometimes being stuck in the water or sometimes by using bath water is not really very clean, those are the care they should have.

Also what is being done very well, is to strengthen the vaccination against the virus A (H1N1), especially in pregnant women, he said.

Cordova Villalobos stressed that the federal government has enough vaccine in the cases referred to deal with possible contingencies health in Nuevo Leon.
