        Epidemic seems to be retreating

Prague - The Czech Republic is according to the main health department Vladimir equivalents seemed to have been behind the peaks flu epidemic, this week for the first time decreased overall morbidity. serious cases still are, from the beginning epidemic died 68 people in the 350, who had to be with complications treated in the hospital.
In some countries the number of sick still growing, the most in the region Karlovy Vary and further in the Vysočina region and in the lands Liberec and Zl?n. Because of the high number of sick in some hospitals are still valid partial or complete ban on visits.

Sick is getting fewer, in certain regions epidemic only scorpion. In the East Republic is a sick man every 40th man. Last year at the same time an epidemic the Czech Republic practically missed.
"Maybe the people they have underestimated situation, including pharmaceutical companies, which did not bring medicine on the market as they should, therefore, we must release of its reserves," he admitted Valenta. 'But if this I will compare the season 2010/2011, so the current epidemic this course 2001 year practically st?nuje."

"In the current situation, it appears that there was to stop an increase in an epidemic. Obviously, then we're close to its peak. The decrease is in most regions and in all age groups," said the Valenta. In the 100 thousand people this week 1756 cases of disease.
The numbers acute respiratory diseases decreased compared to the previous week by 3,4 percentage points, flu by 4.3 percent.

V některých krajích počet nemocných ještě roste, nejvíce v kraji Karlovarském a dále na Vysočině a v krajích Libereckém a Zlínském. Kvůli vysokému počtu nemocných v některých nemocnicích stále platí částečný nebo úplný zákaz návštěv.

          Rapid communications
EARLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY SEVERE START OF INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC DURING INFLUENZA SEASON 2012-13
          J Kyncl ()1,2, M Havlickova3, A Nagy3, H Jirincova3, I Piskova4

A sudden increase in severe influenza has been registered in the Czech Republic since the end of 2012, with 264 cases requiring intensive care, including 51 deaths. Most patients had at least one risk factor. Severe influenza in patients with obesity, smoking and/or haematological disorders including haematological cancers was more frequent than in the pre-pandemic period. The seasonal influenza vaccination status of the cases indicates indirect efficiency of the current vaccine in preventing severe influenza.

Influenza virus activity in Europe is detected each season, yet the precise timing and magnitude of this activity remain highly unpredictable. There was increased media attention regarding the re-occurrence of severe influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 cases at the beginning of 2013 in the Czech Republic. This led to a higher demand of antiviral drugs. In order to clarify the current influenza situation, we provide here representative data from the case-based reports of severe influenza cases and combine them with the data received from routine surveillance.

              Week 8

              Summary:
This year's flu epidemic in Europe subsides very slowly, but
number of states with decreasing morbidity increased again - drop reported for 10 networks.
CR: the 8th calendar week in the Czech Republic in 2013 was a further slight decline in incidence
acute respiratory infections, including influenza (ARI), a 6% decrease is again recorded
in all age groups. Overall ARI morbidity in the Czech Republic reaches
1460 cases per 100 000 inhabitants. Decrease morbidity is also investigated for flu
like illness (ILI), by 19.2%. The situation can be assessed as slowly
retreating flu epidemic, now they have a regional character, especially
in North Bohemia and Moravia, where the epidemic started later.
Also decreases the number of required laboratory tests, but the virus detection rate
Influenza is still relatively high, at least 40%. In recent weeks, the
increasing the proportion of the total etiology H3 subtype as well as type B.

                3.11 2,013
Europe / TESSy / Euroflat (ECDC, WHO)
The overall proportion of influenza-positive cases in Europe still remains high (54%),
however downward trend is evident. The proportion of influenza A and B, on a European scale is
almost equal, the subtypes prevalent subtype slightly AH1N1
                pdm.
Were tested 664 influenza strains to antiviral resistance: 4 isolates
subtype showed A/H1 H275 amino acid substitution. Two of these isolates
were from immunodeficient patients treated, the other two from untreated patients
antiviral. It is recorded one A/H3 resistant and one B strain resistant.
For strains sent to the Embassy of NRL Hospital in Ostrava and Pilsen have carried out the first
identification: 14 isolates from Ostrava was included in the B line Yamagata. Identification
Pilsen isolates begin this week, because unfortunately erythrocyte binding stability at
recent H1 and H3 subtypes are highly variable and tribes had to be repeatedly
                pas??ovat.
                Summary:
Europe is characterized by a receding epidemic, although a number of states (19 total) reports
even surface appearance. The rise of morbidity is already registered in Finland.

reaches 1298 cases per 100 000 inhabitants. Pronounced decline
morbidity in the group investigated flu-like illness (ILI), by
21.8%. Currently it is a regional occurrences of influenza,
especially in the western part of Bohemia, in northeastern Bohemia and Moravia,
where the epidemic started later. Influenza continues to occur in other parts of
Republic, but it is mostly a local outbreak. The Czech Republic currently dominates
                rather influenza type B.
Number of registered cases of severe course of influenza continue to gradually
