Orizaba, Veracruz, (AVC) .- The Center for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Orizaba (CRIO) serves nine people, one of them joined a month ago, with consequences for acute flaccid paralysis or Guillain Barre syndrome.

Patients may be left with a sequel in the form of walking, without affecting their quality of life.

In November and December 2010 the Ministry of Health confirmed an outbreak of acute flaccid paralysis in 38 cases, however, the general director of CRIO Alberto Godoy Reyes, confirmed that last month received a patient who would be an isolated case.

This is an old washed up production and now receiving therapy in CRIO is recovering mobility of their limbs.

Treatment consists of a stimulator massages and mechanotherapy for muscles, independent of the frequency and dedication to the treatment.

In this regard the specialist Francisco Aguilar Rebolledo said the damage throughout the peripheral nervous system is lost feeling in his legs, and walking becomes rigid by lack of sensory receptor. In his walk the trips are common.

Usually Guillain Barr? syndrome has an incidence of 0.3 to 0.8% of the population, ie not more than 80 cases per year, an outbreak in two months is something serious.

"I studied an outbreak a few years ago across the country and discovered that the deceased was the germ that is incubated in the intestines."
Four thousand patients treated at the CRIO have conditions like cerebral palsy, and adult sequelae of accidents and disability from diseases like diabetes. And last year received the first patients with acute flaccid paralysis.
