Heavy snow, strong winds expected in Japan over weekend
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Japan Meteorological Agency warned Tuesday of heavy snow, strong winds and high waves mostly on the Sea of Japan side of the country Thursday to Friday due to a wintry pressure pattern and a developed low-pressure system.
Many areas across the country, mainly along the Sea of Japan from Hokkaido to the Kinki region, saw heavy snow Monday because of a strong wintertime low-pressure pattern.
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Japan Meteorological Agency warned Sunday of blizzards and high waves in northern Japan through Monday, while heavy snow is expected in Sea of Japan coastal areas of the country through Tuesday.
Fallen tree cuts power to bullet train line, delays 60,000 passengers
Some 60,000 passengers on the Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train line found themselves going nowhere in a hurry on Dec. 26 after a snow-laden tree fell onto the tracks and cut power to one section of the line for over two hours.
