Jakarta - Mechanism of virus sharing and benefit sharing was not mentioned in the Executive Session of the World Health Organization Board (EB-WHO) on 18-23 January in Geneva. Discuss the virus and the transfer mechanism is still hampered profits in the patent.

Explained the Minister of Health (Minister), Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, viral transfer mechanism arranged between the member states as the first WHO, and WHO as the second party, and manufacturing (industrial vaccine) as a third party.

The new agreement, added Endang, the mechanism of virus transfer between the first and the second party, called the Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA).

This agreement makes the first party has to know the way the vaccine virus when transferred to a second party. Is used for research or shared with third parties to make vaccines. SMTA agreement has been running 2 years.
"What have the WHO Collaborating Center to manufacturing, it has not agreed SMTA. That's what will strive in the World Health Assembly (WHA / WHO Supreme Court)," Endang added in talking with reporters at the Ministry of Health Building, Jl HR Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Jakarta, Monday (25/1/2010) evening.

Agreed again, is when the second party to give the virus to a third party. But this agreement was not binding and Indonesia to fight for this rule binding on all WHO country.

Not yet agreed also about what benefits will be obtained when the virus first party to use a third party or benefit sharing. Then issue a patent which is still the attraction between members of the developed and developing country members.

"Some developing countries are powerful manufacturer like India and Brazil have joined to make a vaccine (the virus transfers to third parties). Manufacturer says it was nice kok, kok my research. Developed country say there is no incentive if there are no patents," chirped short-haired woman.
Now, the discussion of virus sharing and benefit sharing have not succeeded in the Assembly discussed the WHO EB will be discussed again in May 2010, before being taken to the WHA.

"We have a system of fair, equitable and transparent for the sake of berkmbang countries," said Endang.
