The ban on bird hunting again introduced in Azerbaijan from December 1 this year in connection with reports on the identification of an avian influenza virus (H1N1) in Turkey, Georgia and Hong Kong, told RIA Novosti the spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MENR) Irada Ibragimov on Friday.

    Fifth of November this year in connection with appeals of hunting organizations in the country was lifted a ban on bird hunting, introduced in Azerbaijan in 2005.

    "A ban was introduced until one month as a precautionary measure," - she said, noting that "preventive measures against bird flu must be taken, without waiting for the flu will not spread and we have."

    According to her, the beginning of bird migration from South-East Asia and the proximity of Georgia and Turkey to "raise the possibility of bringing into the country at any time of the disease (virus H1N1)".

    "To make a final decision on this issue, the Ministry appealed to the Azerbaijani State Committee on Prevention of Avian Influenza and the coordination of joint activities of all organizations in this sphere", - noted as the spokesperson of the MENR.

    Thanks Tonka. I think the article must mean H5N1 instead of H1N1.
