Flu season ramping up fast in South Dakota
"There has been one influenza-related death in Brown County for the flu season, according to a report from the South Dakota Department of Health.
The death was a person in his or her 90s and reported during the week ending Dec. 15, the third death in the state this season, according to the report. The two other deaths this year were also people in their 90s in Pennington County in the southwest region of the state.
Flu season is making an early move in South Dakota this year, with 409 reported cases, state epidemiologist Lon Kightlinger said. If it continues to grow, the number could exceed the number of confirmed cases last flu season, which was 500, Kightlinger said.
There were only five confirmed cases of influenza at this point in 2012, Kightlinger said..."
