    Re: Cocirculation of Influenza Viruses

I made a picture about H1,H3 cocirculation in China since 1997,
but wait for the WHO-copyright response before I post it.

The current situation looks similar to 1995/6 , when H1 also
suddenly outcrowded H3 in China but then H3 returned
    nevertheless in 1996/7

H3 was clearly dominant in China from 2002 until the summer-wave in 2005
In 2003,2004 there was very little H1, even less than now.

But it survived (where ?) and even became dominant in 2005/6.
Is it because people became immune to H3 after the severe summer wave in 2005 ?

Remember, Southern China (Hong Kong) usually has 2 waves per year,
however the timings are not so clear as in USA,Europe.
Remember also, that flu-waves are believed to usually start/emerge in SE-Asia.
Flu usually doesn't survive summer in USA but rather is newly introduced the next season
from Asia with the then dominating strains from there.

** is different(so far), of course.

From: Pandemic Influenza (H1N1) 2009 Is Associated with Severe Disease in India http://www.plosone.org/article/info%...l.pone.0010540

          Confirmed cases
Since the beginning of this pandemic, 11 May to 31 October 2009, a total of 607,117 persons presented themselves for screening to various health centers in Pune. Of these 34,917 persons were determined as suspected cases of ILI. From 1 August to 31 October, a total of 7,866 suspected cases were sampled for diagnosis of influenza etiology. Frequencies of pandemic H1N1 and seasonal-A cases were 17.8% and 16.3% respectively (Table 1). Due to heavy work load and priority for identification of pandemic H1N1, all the influenza-A positive cases were not sub-typed. A sub-set of 374 seasonal-A positive samples, selected randomly for testing, yielded 86 (23%) seasonal H1N1, and 288 (77%) H3N2 virus. In a subset of 399 cases, selected randomly, only 6 were positive for influenza-B virus.

                        Re: Cocirculation of Influenza Viruses

                        gs,
At your link, when I click "data query" the page that comes up lists communicable diseases, human resources for health, etc.

If I click "Influenza virus monitoring", it takes me to a page that gives an option for "summary".. but the summary page is empty. Apparently they aren't monitoring flu right now?

Now, if I go to Malaria and click "summary", it gives me all the info from the groups: "Reported Malaria, Intervention coverage, Service Delivery".

If I just want "reported malaria", click it and choose what catagories I want, then "add to selected indicators". Then another page gives me the geographical choices. I select "all countries", "latest available data", then "view data" and it brings up the list I asked for.

I can't get IE to cooperate today so I'm not sure if using that browser will give different results.

yes, it was different some days ago.
You should get a page where you can select the different flu-types,
I can't see how to get this now.

hmm, not for me. Not until some days ago.

                              I also tried firefox ...

                              choose H1,H3,pandemic H1,total A,total B
and mark the fiel above them
click "go" (the left go, not the right)
                              then chose all countries
                              then show data

that gives ~10 pages to be stored in one file

                              I'll try with another connection

Now I can't get that link to bring up the flu info like it did yesterday. Maybe they're working on the site? I don't remember "Dynamic HIV Epifact sheet report" being listed yesterday; but maybe I just didn't notice it.

                                I'm using Opera and IE.
