    • Epidemiological comments
      • During the epidemiological surveillance carried out in response to the event, the National Food Quality, Food Safety and Health Service (SENASICA) continues the epidemiological sampling in the outbreaks, around the outbreaks and in the buffer zone.
      • So far, 305 poultry farms have been sampled.
      • The virus H7N3 was isolated in 33 farms, diagnosis is ongoing in other 166 and 106 have tested negative to H7N3 virus.
      • The population at risk in these 305 farms amounts to about 17 million birds, of which 60% of commercial farms, 24.6% of broilers, 8.5% of backyard poultry and 6.9% of breeders.
      • As part of the measures taken to reduce the risk, the buffer zone has been extended to an area of about 22,000 square kilometres.
      • Through the surveillance activities, 22,258 serological and virological samples have been obtained and processed in three regional and one mobile laboratories, all of them are official.
      • During the activities of depopulation of the poultry farms, around 3.8 million birds have been slaughtered and destroyed of an affected population of 9.3 million birds.
      • Control measures on the movement of birds, their products and by-products are still in place in the quarantine area and 22 check and surveillance points have been established (14 around the perimeter and 8 inside).
      • Epidemiological surveillance activities continue in the outbreaks, around the outbreaks and in the buffer zone.
      • As a measure to reduce the risk, sampling will be carried out in neighbouring States and in poultry farms at risk outside the buffer zone.
      • Current epidemiological parameters indicate an incidence rate of 26.97%, a mortality of 10.58% and a fatality of 39%.
      • As part of the measures to control and eradicate the virus, the possibility of authorizing the production and application of a temporary emulsified vaccine is being considered in the quarantine zone and in the exposed and at high-risk poultry farms.
      • Poultry farms in which the temporary vaccination would be authorized, prior risk assessment, should eliminate the vaccinated birds at the end of their productive life.
