    By Mohamed Talaat el-Hawari 11/ 5/ 2009

    The Map

A report issued by the Third Medical Research Unit of the US navy (NAMRU-3) said Egypt is the most country infected with avian flu outside of Asia, despite control measures.

The report, of which Al-Masry Al-Youm got a copy, said 71% of the infected patients received medical treatment within 3 days of the symptoms.

It also said the government sent NAMRU-3 941 samples in February and March, of which 934 samples were under the Seasonal Influenza Control Program, and 7 samples to be examined for (H5 N1) and (HPAI).

It pointed out that among the 63 confirmed cases recorded in Egypt between March 2006 and March 2009, there were 23 serious infections.

The report used the term 'epidemic curve' when it addressed the evolution of the disease in Egypt, where the number jumped from 18 cases in 2006 to 12 cases in the first quarter of this year alone.

It revealed that infections have increased among children less than 5 years of age and females between 10 and 39 years, pointing out that female infection reached 60%, a rate that is much greater than the global rates.

It said Egypt ranked third in the global infection rate with a 14% infection rate as registered by the World Health Organization in March. Indonesia is ranked first with 34% and Vietnam second with 26%.

The report also said the infection covered all of Egypt in 2007, when it was only in the Delta in 2006.

Because of this report and the numerous suspected H5N1 cases, along with the possible/probable 2009 H1N1 cases, we have opened an Egypt forum.

?Egyptian today? published the report of the U.S. Naval Research Unit ?Namro 3? on the avian flu in Egypt

      Mohamed Talaat Hawwari 5-11-2009

According to a recent report issued by the Medical Research Unit in the third of the American navy ?Namro 3?, obtained ?Egyptian today? copy of which was that the bird flu cases so referred to last March, describing the ?high-risk models in exposure to the disease?, stressing that the Egypt were the most infected countries in the world outside the continent of Asia, because of ?the higher density of the H5N1 virus, in spite of the control measurements?, according to the report.

The report pointed out that 71% of patients receiving health care within 3 days of the emergence of symptoms of the disease to them, except in the case of the child Mohammed, who died in April last year, The report confirmed that the child being infected with the disease after 6 days of onset of symptoms, and began to be received treatment after 13 days of the onset of symptoms, is classified ?Namro 3?, condition b ?serious? in late March, the report pointed out that the average time of death after the start of treatment was 8 days.

The report pointed out that ?Namro 3?, received during the period between February and March, 941 samples from Egypt under the program of research and animal viral diseases, including 934 in the sample under the control of seasonal influenza program, and 7 samples to examine their relationship to human Bverosy H5N1 and HPAI.

And cases of bird flu, the report stated that there were 7 new cases in March this year, all children except for one case, these cases were monitored in 6 provinces of Alexandria and Monoufia Qalubia and the lake, Assiut and Qena, and that all cases had contact with sick or dead infected before they show symptoms of the disease to all of us. The report added: ?all cases have been confirmed infected with the disease and began treatment within 72 hours, with the exception of the child than the six years of Qaliubiya, as confirmed bird flu after 6 days of onset of symptoms, and treatment began after 13 days of the onset of symptoms by?.

The report described the condition b ?serious?, a child of Mohammad Ali, who died of the disease late last April, among the 63 confirmed cases recorded in Egypt in the period between March 2006 and March 2009 there were 23 injured, in the case ? serious ?, according to the report.

The report used the term ?the epidemic curve? During his introduction to the evolution of a disease in Egypt, where 18 cases were discovered in 2006, 25 in 2007, and 8 in 2008, the number jumped to 12 in the first quarter of 2009, and most of the cases emerged in the cold season, in spite of a few cases in the warm months in 2006 and 2007.

The report presented detailed tables include the type of situation, SARS, and the preservation of, and the history of the emergence of symptoms of the disease, and the dates of the injury, and the withdrawal of the sample, and confirmation of infection, and the start of treatment, and described the situation after receiving treatment, and determine ages infected with avian influenza, with an average age of 8 years of the 63 patients enrolled until last March, two of them over 40 years, and 31 over 10 years, and 23 over 5 years, and 8 in the age group between 5 and 9 years, from a total of 23 male and 40 female.

The report and the observations of the task of building models as a ?high risk?, including ?increase in the number of children infected with bird flu under the age of five, and females between 10 and 39 years, which refers to the models in high-risk exposure to the disease, such as playing with infected birds or their droppings or cutting Rischha ?.

The report pointed out that the average time between onset of symptoms until the injured and taken to hospital for treatment, an estimated two days, and 71% of patients received health care during the 3 days of the emergence of symptoms of infection to them, while the confirmed infection of 47% of patients during the 24 hours of onset of symptoms to them, and that the term, during which the transfer of children to hospitals since the onset of symptoms have lasted for only 24 hours, while the value of 3 and a half days for adults.

The report stressed that Egypt is the most bird flu outside Asia, and ranks third in the proportions of the disease worldwide, 14% of the total 413 cases registered by the World Health Organization until the end of last March, after Indonesia, which ranks first in the incidence of so date by 34%, and Vietnam by 26% in the second place.

The report recorded a high incidence among females than males, the disease in Egypt, which is different from the global model of the confirmed cases, which accounted for 60% of the cases infected with the disease in Egypt, compared to 100% of cases of infected males in some countries, is to accelerate the transfer of children to hospitals, following the appearance of symptoms of infection to them, an appropriate standard may be explained by differences in the rates of serious cases among children and adults, which requires more extensive investigations in this regard.

The report concludes with the high incidence of bird flu in Egypt in the detailed tables of cases infected premises, and pointed out that the cases in 2006 was concentrated in the Nile Delta north of Cairo, while infected with the disease have been recorded in all parts of Egypt in 2007, 3 cases were found in the Delta, and one in Cairo, and 4 in the south of Cairo in 2008, while 12 were injured in the various provinces in 2009.

Showed that the maps of 63 human cases, infected with H5N1, widespread in the Egyptian province of 19 after having been concentrated in a few provinces in early 2006.
