Re: Tally: Canada deaths
Watching what has been going on within the First Nations in Manitoba, it has been quite a surprise that no deaths have been reported from that Provence. For instance, in the US, three of our deaths have occurred among women who were pregnant. The minimal information released in the press regarding those ill with ILI in the First Nations reservations indicate that several were pregnant. What happened to these people?
As of 12Jun2009 there were several dozen people on ventilators in Winnipeg ICUs. Some had been in this critical state for 2 or more weeks. In my experience, it is rare for people to survive this long on ventilators since if the primary disease is not sufficient to take them complications of this type of intensive and invasive therapy usually is.
So, it is a curious finding that there are so many people on vents in Winnipeg for this long with none dying. This is very unusual.
BTW, what constitutes death in Canada of a hospitalized patient on a ventilator? In the US the legal standard is someone is deceased when they have no brain wave activity on EEG and two physicians uninvolved in the care of the patient attest to their being clinically deceased. In the US, at that point, the patient can be removed from life support.
