Minister of Public Health and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health HE Abdullah bin Khalid al-Qahtani yesterday announced more five cases of swine flu in Qatar, taking the number of confirmed cases to 10.
The minister told Qatar News Agency that the first case announced yesterday was a Qatar-based Egyptian youth aged 17, who returned from Washington on board the Qatar Airways flight QR052, the same flight in which the two Iraqi and Jordanian youths travelled, who tested positive with the flu.
The second case is a Qatar-based Filipino aged 29, the wife the Filipino man who arrived from Washington yesterday on Qatar Airways flight QR052 and confirmed with the flu, the minister said.
He added the other cases were three Australian brothers including twins aged 12 and third aged 8, who arrived from Australian city of Melbourne, on board Emirates Airways flight EK843, via Dubai, to visit a Qatar-based relative.
All the infected people were provided with anti-virus medicine and they are in good health and recovering at their homes, he said.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has called on passengers who recently travelled on five specific flights to go to the nearest medical centre for check-up ?if they have symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat or runny nose.?
The flights are: Qatar Airways - QR052 (Washington-Doha) on June 12, Qatar Airways - QR052 (Washington-Doha) on June 13, Emirates ? 843EK (Dubai-Doha) on June 13, Qatar Airways ? QR084 (from the US) on June 14 and Qatar Airways ? QR154 (from Bahrain) on June 15.
Two cases were confirmed on Wednesday after three cases (two toddlers and a teenager) were tested positive on Tuesday.
The first of the cases is a Jordanian resident of Doha, aged 17, who recently returned from Washington accompanied by an Iraqi youth.
The second case is a Filipino, 31, who arrived in Doha also from Washington on Qatar Airways.
Both patients are receiving treatment and are in stable health condition, according to the Health Minister.
Members of their families were also given anti-viral medication as a ?preventive measure?.
To obtain or give information about swine flu, the public may call the SCH on designated hotline 6740951 and HMC on 4430438.
