CORPUS CHRISTI ? A third person with a confirmed case of swine flu died overnight at an area hospital, Dr. William Burgin, health authority of the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District confirmed Thursday.
The identity and circumstances surrounding the death of the person have not been released by health officials.
On Aug. 3, Melissa Cantu, 31, died at Christus Spohn Hospital South. Cantu died as a result of contracting the H1N1 virus. Carlos Garnica, 33, was the first person from Nueces County to die with swine flu. He died May 6 of viral pneumonia at Northwest Regional Hospital. After his death, authorities confirmed he had swine flu.
There have been 170 confirmed cases in the county, including five people hospitalized, health officials said.
