  • Discussion - FluTrackers Invited to Washington D.C. to Media Session on H1N1

I am pleased to announce that FluTrackers has been invited to Washington D.C. to participate in a media interactive session to discuss our perspective on how the government can most efficiently and effectively disseminate information on the novel H1N1 influenza outbreak.

I will be attending for FluTrackers. In attendance for the government will be Secretary Sebelius (HHS) and Secretary Napolitano (DHS), among others.

This invitation reflects the hard work of everyone here. We are considered as vital as main stream media. The U.S. government asking us for advice.

Last year I sat next to someone from ABC news. FluTrackers. Reuters. NPR.

    Very humbling. Us.

I hope to convey our message.

Tell the truth. Show faith in the people. Trust us.

Wow! That is very gratifying to hear, and very humbling also. Sharon, thank you for your
        patience and steadfast leadership.

Flutrackers has educated and supported many. It has been a great privilege to be a member.

I am personally very grateful for the fine work of all here, particularly the translators. I could never continue my own project for HCP without the support, knowledge base, and continual research of the members of this forum.

Given the number of dedicated people and the depth of knowledge of our posters, I am not surprised we have made it to the big time. The hard work is paying off. Now if we can just influence the ptb to stop worrying so much about scaring people. People won't panic if they have some time to prepare. People will panic if they are given no time to prepare.

          Fist bump Sharon.

Wow, Sharon, that's fantastic! This is the culmination of years of hard work, and you deserve every bit of applause. Yes, everyone on here has helped, but you took the first step to make it possible and stayed with it throughout all the thousands of hours of labor. Congratuations to you and to Sally as well, and thanks from all of us for everything you do.

I've been quietly reading daily posts since November 2007 and am heartened that there is a "place at the [international] table" for leaders from FluTrackers -

Please inform them to let the general public know that there are MORE symptoms than just fever and to clarify the fed definition so virus shed can be reduced/prevented in the future.

Swine Flu is evidencing itself by a dry cough first, many times.

This is not the standard flu. Fever comes days after, not immediately. Fever is in response to infection. The dry cough is caused by the fact that this virus is landing in the throat, going nose to throat, producing a thick green mucus, and then, untreated by antibiotics, heads straight for the lungs. Pneumonia! And when the health system is overwhelmed and thus unable to respond quickly due to lack of access to an HCW or, soon, lack of access to the antibiotics needed immediately when infected, the mortality rate will jump in the US to what it is in 3rd world countries.

I've witnessed three people close to me directly and indirectly, all in their 20's and 30's, become infected.

We'll see if you can get the message across. I doubt it. I'll bet a thousand dollars, right now, that your effort will be unproductive. There are bigger, organized voices, the vax mfrs, the labs and agency staff who have career at stake.

Long ago, I learned that power is all that's sought, recognition and thus power to gain a benefit, by those who seek it aggressively. In this field, I see it constantly. Objectivity is a political term.

I'll bet the thousand that it will be fun there, but it won't accomplish a hill of beans. I hope I'm wrong, but this site has told the world, and thus, them, many times what to do and what to think. Yet, they're holding a party to "look". Gimme a break.

And on that note, tell them that Tamiflu has a real probability of having randomly effective value. Many may die because of this.

And on that note, raise the fact that the game of school closings...NOT... is a societal benefit, rather than a personal benefit. Suggest that for those who can, they should seriously consider cloistering themselves.

Lastly, tell them about your plan when the fog of this viral war gets thick.
