LEE COUNTY ? A third Lee County resident has died from swine flu, according to public health authorities.

Officials with the Florida Department of Health say test results came back that a 57-year-old Lee woman died from the H1N1 virus that causes swine flu.

"Our deepest sympathies are extended to family and friends," Dr. Judith Hartner, executive director of the Lee Health Department, said in a statement. "We have continued to see influenza activity over the summer. Therefore, we urge people to take precautions against flu illness by following proper hygiene."

As of last week in Florida, there were 48 swine-flu deaths but an updated figure was not immediately available Wednesday morning.

Proper hygiene includes frequent hand washing, coughing or sneezing into your elbow and staying home if you feel ill.

Federal authorities estimate that swine flu ill afflict 30 to 40 percent of the population from earlier this spring and going forward two years.
