Dallas County has confirmed its second death associated with the swine flu, officials said at a news briefing today.

A 37-year-old man with underlying health issues died last week, the Dallas County health department reported.

Health department officials also said they have confirmed the county?s first case of the swine flu resisting the anti-viral drug Tamiflu. Only seven cases of Tamiflu resistance have been reported in the U.S.

Dallas County?s first death associated with H1N1 was reported last week, when a 52-year-old woman, also with underlying medical issues, died.

So far, 34 people in Texas have died from the swine flu since the new bug was identified last spring.

DALLAS ? Dallas County health officials have announced the second death related to swine flu.

A 37-year-old Garland man with underlying health issues died last week from complications of the H1N1 flu virus.

Dallas County Health and Human Services also said there has recently been a third death of a person who was treated in Dallas County, but who lives in an undisclosed county.

Officials are closely monitoring all types of health data and believe they may be seeing an uptick in flu-related illnesses in the county.

"Our message is that flu is continuing to occur in this community," said Dallas County health authority Dr. John Carlo. "With school back in session, we're watching this very carefully and we could be seeing the beginning of a trend, but at this point we're very preliminary."

Parents are requested to keep sick kids home from school to minimize the spread of the flu. Othere suggestions include sneezing into your sleeve and maintaining good hygiene.

The federal government says H1N1 vaccine, which will be targeted toward highest-risk groups, will be available next month.

Back in your skin of course, you'll shriek for a cure. But remember: air travel, roads, cities, prostitution, the congregation of people for efficient commerce - these are gifts of godspeed to the virus"
