East Texas Has first H1N1 Fatality
Emergency management, medical, school and business officials from a 35-county region convened Wednesday to discuss the country?s H1N1 outbreak and to identify preparedness opportunities for communities.
Officials also announced they have learned of East Texas? first fatality associated with the H1N1 virus.
?In Van Zandt County a resident passed away in August and it appears to be from H1N1,? said Dr. Paul McGaha, regional director for the Texas Department of Health Services, Region 4/5 North. ?Our deepest sympathy goes out to the individual?s family.?
No specific information was released about the patient, but officials did note that the man was ?younger than 50.?
