Pa. Has Its 11th Swine Flu Related Death
PITTSBURGH (AP) ― State health officials say a Pittsburgh-area man with swine flu has died.

The health department says the 27-year-old Allegheny County man died several weeks ago of complications of swine flu. His name wasn't released.

More than 300 confirmed cases of swine flu have been confirmed in western Pennsylvania this year.

A 27-year-old man is Western Pennsylvania's first confirmed H1N1 swine flu death, state officials said today.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is keeping the man's identity private and would not say when he died or if he was hospitalized.

"He did have underlying health concerns," said spokeswoman Holli Senior. She could not provide further details on what those health concerns were.

Asthma, diabetes linked to obesity and cardiovascular disease are among the health conditions that can make people more susceptible to the flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Last week, the Allegheny County Health Department and former county coroner Cyril Wecht began investigating the death of Deborah Spangler, 45, of Butler County for the possibility of a swine flu link. The Department of Health has not yet confirmed if her death was the result of the new flu virus.

There have been 13 swine flu deaths in Pennsylvania. Except for the Allegheny County death, all have been in the eastern part of the state.

At least 364 people nationwide have died of swine flu, according to the CDC.

Is this death #11 or 13? I don't trust any source counting only 364 total deaths in the US though...
