    Two More People Die Of Swine Flu In Kansas TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - State health officials say two people from northeast Kansas have died from swine flu, the state's third and fourth deaths linked to the H1N1 virus.

    The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Thursday that a 16-year-old from northeast Kansas died Tuesday, and tests confirmed swine flu Wednesday. A 30-year-old adult, also from northeast Kansas, died Wednesday, and tests confirmed the adult had the swine flu virus.

    KDHE said the 16-year-old and the 30-year-old both had underlying health conditions.

    Two other swine flu deaths were reported earlier in Kansas.

    Swine flu cases have been confirmed in 55 of the state's 105 counties since the first cases were reported in late April.

    It would be great to know if the two were from the same town, school, work...anything.

      Yup-time to start scanning the obits for profiles that fit these two folks to see what town they are from--my bet is on the larger populated towns in NE KS...

        Brandon Michael Thomas McLilly, 16, of Leavenworth, passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Children?s Mercy Hospital.

        KDHE Report for Sept. 13 - 19th indicates ILINet clinics in Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Lyon, Riley and Geary counties.

        Cases have been reported in the news in Kansas City area (Leavenworth, Wyandotte, and Johnson counties) in Lawrence (Douglas county) and in Emporia (Lyon county). So far haven't seen much about cases at Kansas State University (Riley and Geary counties).

          Either the 30 year old is being counted twice or they are not from Johnson County.

          The Johnson County Health Department had confirmed the county's first death due to H1N1 flu.
          The 30-year-old female was hospitalized with underlying health conditions.

          Another death has been confirmed in northeast Kansas, a 39-year-old woman. Thursday, the Department of Health and the Environment confirmed another two H1N1-related deaths. With Friday's confirmations, there are a total of six deaths in the state.

            Matter of Elimination --

            Johnson County Health Department Friday afternoon confirmed the 30-year-old woman was from Johnson County. Health officials in Douglas and Leavenworth counties said KDHE has not contacted them, so the deaths likely have not occurred in those counties. Shawnee County officials would not release any details

              News media still hasn't confirmed locations of latest H1N1 deaths. From obituaries, the following are possible locations:

              Brown County - 39 year old (obituary on kmzafm.com and cjonline.com)
              Jackson County - 30 year old (obituary in cjonline.com yesterday)
              Leavenworth County - 16 year old (obituary in Leavenworth Times)

              Various Kansas City area news outlets have confirmed a 30 year old death in Johnson county.

                  Funds to help H1N1 victim's family

                  Friends of a Mayetta woman who died as a result of the H1N1 flu virus are hosting a softball tournament to raise money in support of her family.

                  Stephanie Conway Alfrey, 30, died Sept. 23, from the flu virus expected to cause a pandemic across the nation. Alfrey had underlying medical conditions that weakened her body to the virus, Melody Rosencutter said.

                  Rosencutter is one of the organizers of the softball tournament, which will be Oct. 10 and 11 at Dornwood Park, S.E. 25th and Highland. She is the secretary for the Highland Park Baseball Association, and her husband, Mike, is the president.

                  "As far as Mike and I, it was a big shock," Rosencutter said. "We didn't even know she was sick."

                  Rosencutter and her husband had seen Alfrey the weekend before her death at a board meeting for the association, where Alfrey served as a member.

                  Rosencutter said Alfrey coached at the park for about three years, and her three children -- Daniel, 13; Dalton, 9; and Taylor, 7 -- played on teams at the park.

                  "She was a very caring mom," said Tracy Wendt, a friend of Alfrey's, who is helping to organize the tournament. "She did everything for everybody."

                  Wendt, who has known Alfrey since Alfrey was born, said the woman helped managed her husband's team and sold candy bars for children who hadn't met their quota so they could play.

                  She said Alfrey and her husband, James, were high school sweethearts and had been together 12 years.

                  "She would definitely want to see them move forward and continue doing what they've always been doing," Wendt said of Alfrey's family and teams.

                  Rosencutter said they are looking for eight men's teams and eight co-recreational teams to play in the tournament. Registration is $150 per team and all money will be donated to help Alfrey's family with funeral and medical expenses. Money raised from concession sales will also go toward the fund.
