RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina health officials are reporting the first child flu death since the swine flu came into the state during the spring.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said Friday that the child died last weekend of complications from influenza. Officials declined to release other details except to say that the child had underlying medical conditions.
Health directors have said that most healthy children and adults who get the flu will recover without needing a doctor. Health officials say 11 people have died from the flu since the spring.
North Carolina is already reporting flu activity that rivals the winter peak of other flu seasons this decade.
