    Va officials report H1N1-associated death
    By the Associated Press
    September 25, 2009

RICHMOND, Va. - State health officials say a western Virginia resident has died after contracting the H1N1 virus.

The Virginia Department of Health on Friday said the cause of death hasn't been confirmed, but the flu virus appears to have been a factor.

The patient had an underlying health condition that put him at greater risk of complications from the novel influenza A, which some have dubbed "swine flu." No other details were reported.

Health officials say the H1N1 vaccine is expected to be available in mid-October.
